Surgery scheduled for June 30th!!!

Recommended Posts

Almost a year after attending the seminar my VSG is scheduled for June 30th. Tomorrow I go for my pre-surgical testing, my last visit with my surgeon and a group class. I'm not nervous at all about the surgery, just excited and cannot wait to see what the rest of my new-found life awaits.

My surgeon told me at my first visit with him that I will lose 90 lbs. over a year! Given that, I am seeing on different posts on here that people around my weight are losing weight at a quicker pace. I know not to compare myself to others, but just wondered if the weight is coming off quicker than expected. I have been heavy most of my life and I'm really having a hard time wrapping my mind around what I will look like 40, 50 or 90 lbs lighter. I keep hearing about the amount of energy people are gaining and really looking forward to that because I am tired all the time and could sleep anywhere.

What kinds of Vitamins is everyone using? I have been trying Celebrate Vitamins, but they are so big and so sweet they are hard to choke down. I have never really been able to take vitamins without nausea..even with food. Any ideas?

Sorry for such a long post, I guess I'm just excited that this is really about to happen!

Height: 5'11/2"

Congrats on getting your surgery date.

I have been taking the Bariactric fusion berry flavored chewable. I don't mind them much at all. They taste ok and don't make me nauseous.

I am just 3 weeks post op and I have lost about 15 pounds. I am happy to lose slow and steady and I am trying hard not to compare myself to others. Everyone is different and will lose at their own pace.

I wish you good luck and many blessings for a safe surgery.

I am going to be getting the gastric sleeve surgery. It sounds like you are doing excellent! Will have to look into those Vitamins. I hope you continue to do well with your journey Apple1 😁

Hi redfire! My sleeve surgery is scheduled for the 28th!! I currently weigh 235, and my surgeon thinks I'll be able to lose 90-100 lbs, so our stats are pretty similar starting out! I'm interested to see how fast the weight will come off too! As for Vitamins, my surgeon said no chewables or gummies, only swallowable ones, except for the B12 which is a sublingual tablet that dissolves under the tongue. They just had my get b12, a complete daily multi Vitamin, calcium citrate, and Biotin (to help with hair loss). I've never gotten sick from vitamins though! I hope that goes away for you! Congrats on your surgery date!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
