Mommydb0811 2 Posted June 4, 2017 I am only 4 days out from my surgery I waited a year to go through it and now that I have i have some anxiety about some things. I was wondering after anyone has gone thru this surgery did u deal with bad spasms when swallowing and if so how did u help them go away or help to reduce them it makes it so hard for me to want to drink or try when I know it will result in pain spasms. Also I was wondering about gas is there some really great way to ease it or do I have to basically let it run its course? Any info or options would be awesome thanks u for your time. I'm excited to be able to be part of a large group of others who have had this surgery as well. 1 Newme17 reacted to this
Newme17 3,444 Posted June 4, 2017 I had spasms the first week. I had less spasms when I drank warm/hot liquids. They should eventually go away. I'm almost 4 weeks out and I haven't had any since. As for gas, ya got to walk walk walk hon, burp and pass gas it out. 1 GBLady41 reacted to this

The gas has been one of the worse I have been walking a lot hard to know if I'm over doing it at times cause it keeps the spasms down to but then when I rest it hurts to move again gotta find my happy medium I guess thank u so much for you reply...[emoji178] 1 Newme17 reacted to this
ouisch 13 Posted June 4, 2017 you may want to try Gas X strips, they've been helping me. 1 Mommydb0811 reacted to this
Apple1 2,572 Posted June 5, 2017 Walking was the best medicine for the gas. I agree with what @Newme17 said about warm liquids. Room temp or warm/hot was all I could tolerate for the first week. You should be feeling better day by day, just listen to your body and rest when you need it. 2 GBLady41 and Newme17 reacted to this

You're welcome hon and it will get better each day. Unfortunately, gas x strips only work if you've got intestinal gas. The gas they pumped you up with isn't in your intestines but in your stomach cavity. The med wouldn't work there. Hang in there...and walk. 😊 1 Mommydb0811 reacted to this
GBLady41 393 Posted June 5, 2017 Gas-X helped me quite a bit right after surgery. Mommydb0811, you should at least try them and keep walking, walking, walking. It will get better. 1 Mommydb0811 reacted to this
