Waking up after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi how long did it take you to wake up after surgery and the anesthesia to wear off?

Also does everyone have a tube bag after surgery?

This time is really fuzzy - I was in the post-op recovery for about an hour, but then I slept for pretty much the entire next day. I woke up intermittently for 10 to 20 minutes at a time, but usually just to puke :/ That being said, it did appear the post-op pain management team gave me a little too much pain medication so that likely had a strong effect. By day two I was much closer to normal.

If you've ever had surgery before or been "knocked out" before (not at the dentist), the experience will likely be very similar. Every body reacts differently to anesthesia though, and a lot can differ between meds.

I mean you really don't know. You are asleep. you close your eyes in the operating room and wake up in the recovery room and it is like zero time passed. It had to be less than an hour, maybe more than 30 minutes.

I really didn't care, my lips my dry and that was my major concern when I woke up.

Oh goodness me, I don't know. I was out then woke up...everything is fuzzy about how long, etc. I believe, unless you really put your mind to it to know how long after you wake up, you wouldn't even bother to know anyway. You'd just be trying to get comfortable.

Everything that happened to me while I was in the recovery room is fuzzy. All I remember is feeling nauseous and refusing to move to another bed so they could transport me to my room. The next thing I remember is being in my room with my dh standing next to the bed and the nurse putting meds in my iv. I slept off and on for the next 4-6 hours before getting up to pee and walk.

You're going to be okay. You will wake up and feel like you just closed your eyes... and then on top of that you will likely be so high on painkillers you won't know the ceiling from the floor, let alone understand the passage of time LOL! also anaesthesia affects everyone differently, so there's really no predicting what it will be like coming out of it.

no matter what happens, you will be in the hands of trained staff who have seen it allllll and will know just how to care for you in that vulnerable time.

The first day and a half is a total blur for me. I drifted in and out of consciousness.

Not sure what you mean by tube bag though! I had a drain in one of my incision sites (the worst), an IV for fluids and pain medication, but no catheter like some others have.

I think overthinking is very normal when it comes to a major surgery ;)

I'm not sure how long I was under but I was up and walking the halls that night. The gas made me nauseous so I had dry heaves the first few times I walked. I was awake enough after the surgery to use the bathroom when I needed to.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
