Roux Stasis syndrome

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone

Many have read my post about my weight loss journey and complications. I have had 5 bowel obstructions in a year which had Surgury and 5 endoscopy dilation. At this present time I am in the hospital and had to be put back on TPN which I will continue at home for a while. Reason I came to hospital is that last week I started vomiting fluids and couldn't keep anything down. I started drinking ensure and it made it worse. Now they have done a few studies in which Monday is a important study that I am having which I will be drinking barian to see an area where they see something in my small intestine. They believe that a part of my small intestine is not working at all and may need to be removed. I have lost so much weight and weight 90 pounds more than I am suppose to be. At this time doctor is saying my body need to gain some weight in order to do Surgury. The upper gi test shows that the dye passes by all the way down but stuck in a small area for hours when it should go completed through. Have any one heard of or experience Roux Stasis Syndrome? I am very concern and nervous.

You poor thing! I just thought the ensure wasn't agreeing with you :(

I don't know anything about that condition, but I hope they can get you fixed right up!

Not sure how they will get you to gain weight, maybe putting milkshakes into your IV!

{HUGS} Feel better soon!

Hi Berry78

Yeah it's so hard to digest all this information. I feel quilt now and regrets and should of stayed suffering with my bad reflux if I knew all this was going to happen to me. I am so confused. The Tpn has about 1300 calories in it and lots of Vitamins and minerals. I just hate this! I want to be able to function normally. I feel so lost. Thanks for your support. 😊

Do you have family or friends for in-person support?

It sounds like the doctors are taking charge of the situation (wonderful!!), so now the ordeal is in their hands. You just get to go with the flow, and they'll tell you what to do. The best thing for you to focus on now (rather than racking your brain in trying to fix yourself.. because that's not your job anymore).. is for you to go out and have fun. Get a manicure, watch a movie. Pamper yourself.

I don't know if you exercise, but don't do any more than necessary. Those calories need to go to building you up.. exercise will break you down further. (Again, ask your doctor!). If exercise is your stress relief, keep it to slow walks, and look for other outlets.

Everything is going to work out!

Thank you Berry78 for your support. I do have support but I wish I could tell my mom what is going on but she is a negative person. She has always put me down in life and I don't need more negativity. I have some support. I definitely have to do more for myself. I know I have a great surgeon who is known all over the US and in good hands but the anxiety of all these Surgury are hard. I don't exercise much since I haven't been able to recover from all these Surgury but I do like walking. I also bought a Pilate chair to do slow strength exercise to build myself up a little. I hope this nightmare goes away. Trying to be positive. I hope you doing great and feel great. What state are you from ? I live in Long Island, NY. Thank you again for your support😊

Yeah, keep the negative vibes to a minimum. So glad you have a great surgeon, and support!

I'm in Maryland, so we are practically neighbors! (I'm in the wilds of western Maryland, away from the hustle and bustle of Baltimore and D.C.).

Hi Berry78

Oh nice I go to Maryland to visit family in Baltimore. I love to take long rides and drive around places. Maybe we can meet up one day in near future. Yes being away from negative people is best. It can bring a person down and it's not healthy. I saw on the Bariatric Pal Store these plates that look like bento plates. I ordered one and they come in 3 colors. I ordered the pink one and it is a portion plate. You should check it out. It's really nice. Let me know if you get a chance to look at it. I am trying to also figure out portion size. I sometimes tend to overeat and that is not good cause than it comes up. I am sure everything will work out for both of us. Support is very important especially in this life journey we all in. 👍🏻😀

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
