How do I know when I'm full

Recommended Posts

When I'm full I hear gurgling, feel pressure in my chest, and a dull ache in my left shoulder.

Some people get a runny nose or nasal drip when fullness sets in. Others feel gentle pressure in the lower portion of the abdominal area. And still, others don't know they're full until their stomachs hurt.

Here's a tip for the rest of your sleeved life: try to avoid eating or drinking to fullness. Stop when you're satisfied, but do not keep going until you're full and stuffed.

The brain takes about 20 minutes to give the rest of the body feedback that it's had enough food; hence, this is why dietitians suggest we take 15 to 20 minutes to slowly eat/drink.

Prior to weight loss surgery, some of us enjoyed the feeling of fullness after a large meal. Nonetheless, eating/drinking to fullness is not the best habit for those of us who have had surgery.

I feel pressure in my upper chest. I will also burp, or get hiccups. I measure all of my food so that even if I don't get the signals of being full right away, I won't over eat if I finish my plate.

Liquids/fluids don't prompt the feeling of restriction. You won't feel restriction until you start eating dense Protein sources such as chicken, beef and fish. Veggies and fruits also cause restriction.

You will also not feel restriction with "slider" foods such as crackers, pretzels, chips, Cookies, ice cream, donuts and popcorn. These foods turn into a liquid slurry once you chew them. They slide past through your stomach without producing restriction, so they're called "sliders."

Ty, for saying that because i have been having chicken broth and still feel like i could eat/drink it forever. Water I can drink as well as pre op. I thought that post op you could only sip but I can drink far more than a sip.

I can drink with no issues too. I was told not to worry about that, when we start eating food we will feel it. I'm grateful I can drink so easily. Makes getting in all the water and shakes easy.

Thank you LeahF and Joann454! I don't really feel 'full' in the comfortable way I'm used to (i.e after eating a pizza!). This new feeling of pressure /pain in my sternum Is not satisfying and I wonder if I'll feel more satisfied after I can eat real foods. In the meantime, I feel like I can drink a shake an hour without feeling full. On the flipside, struggling to get enough Water.

My Dr. told me that This is a sign of a leak in your pouch...please be careful with the achy shoulder

I get hiccups and get a dull pain in my chest, almost like indigestion if I eat to fullness. I try and make sure I measure my food to avoid that but life happens.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
