I am 2 weeks postop gastRic sleeve.. I'm currently on a soft diet.. my post op md said to hold off on drinking until my goal weight.. which is probably gonna be about 6 months or more. So realistically when did anyone have a glass of wine or alcohol one drink after their sleeve. I know not have any mixed drinks or sugar loaded margaritas

If your doctor told you to wait until goal weight, then that is what you need to do, regardless of what others have done.

I had my first drink at 7 months post op. Went fine. Didn't take much and I was nervous the whole time. Haven't had any since cause it just wasn't worth it.

I have the same issue/question. I'm getting married in 7 weeks and REALLY want to have a little wine with the wedding party in the Limo and a sip or two when we do our toast, I just don't know if it's ok or now. At that point I will be 4 months post op!! Any advice??

You could always toast with something non alcoholic. I'd be afraid to take the chance.

You should have a little wine!! It's your wedding for gawd's sakes! Hell, just a little wine won't kill ya. I was a big wine drinker and have experimented with one glass on two separate occasions. I am only 5 weeks out so I am a baddie. But you know what? I didnt even like the taste or the feeling. It was NOTHING like my old relationship with wine so I am glad I found out.

happy wedding!!

I am 2.5 years post op and drink dry red or white wine, a glass or two on the weekends. I didn't touch alcohol at all until 8 months post op, and I didn't drink it regularly at all until I was 10 lbs below goal and had been maintaining for 6 months.

Just watch yourself and know that your tolerance will be much lower than before. Also, I highly encourage you to be very aware of transfer addiction - MANY bariatric patients transform their food addictions into alcohol addictions.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
