Losing fills

Recommended Posts

I was banded April 18th & have only lost 13lbs. Everytime I get a fill, I have some restriction for a short period of time then it goes away. When I go back for a fill, I always have less than is supposed to be in there. I did my last fil with fluro & dye injection. Supposedly I don't have a leak. Something is wrong here and now I feel my surgeon has less experience than he led me to believe. Please help!!!

I have had 4 fills of 1cc each. Each time I go in for a fill , I have lost at least half if not more of the saline in my band. This is soooo frustrating.

See if your surgeon will fill you with omnipaq. It's more dense than saline and is less likely to leak out.

Another issue could be the fill technique of whomever is doing your fills. There's a specific way that one is supposed to of push down on the needle and such... if it's not done right, I suppose it's conceivable that you're losing a bit of Fluid when they remove the needle.

I completely agree. Ask your fill person if they are using a stop cock, if not, I'll bet that's the problem.

It's normal to have missing fill at fill #2, but not every fill.

Thanks for the advice. I will speak to my surgeon about using a stopcock & omnipaque for my next fill. I noticed that you have been very sucessful with your weight loss. What has helped you to acheive this? Where do you find the ticker on this site?

Exercise is what did it for me. That's what really speeds things up.

Your fill doctor can fill you with a thicker saline to help with little leaks. It worked for me and I can now hold a fill. Ask him about that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
