Surgery date was 5/19 so almost two weeks. Thought I would update.

I have to be honest, the first 3 - 4 days sucked! Nothing specific to the RNY just surgery in general (and I am a baby). Incision pain and internal stomach pain was not good. Spent 4 days in the hospital which was fine. Lots of pain meds and the nursing staff was awesome. I came hope totally scared of the new "system", i.e. digestive system. Worried I would eat to much or to fast or too hot, too cold, etc. Slowly figured how it works. Not as sensitive as I thought. Incisions still hurts but they have started to itch whis is a good sign. Had to rip off the steri-strips. Tired but getting better day by day.

Absolutely no physical hunger. Which is weird. I could honestly go an entire day without eating I think. Dietician told me to concentrate on liquids. I am getting about 50 to 60 oz a day and it is really hard to get more, you just can't drink that much at a time to make it add up. Stopping 1/2 hour before and 1/2 hour after food is a killer. Sipping is also a little tough. I have learned that I don't have to "sip" but rather take 1 moderate drink at a time. Any more then one and I can feel it. In terms of food, while not hungry there is certainly cravings. For some reason ice cream is on my mind. I think it is sugar withdrawal! Also 3 oz of food is a lot. I feel stuffed if I eat that much.

In terms of weight, I started the 2 week preop diet at 240, surgery date was 233, came home from the hospital at 255. They pumped enough IV Fluid into me that I was physically bloated, it was aweful. After the first few days that came off. For the last week I've been losing about a pound a day, which is what my doctor said I would lose. I am male and have a typical beer belly which means it should be easy to lose a lot of weight up front. I can already feel the difference in my clothes.

I guess that is about it. If any one has questions feel free to ask. Thanks for listening!

Good job! We are Surgery day buddies! My incision glue is still holding on strong too haha, and you are right, there is really no physical hunger. I just find myself thinking, "oh you should eat something" haha I guess that is what everyone meant by "head hunger".

Cass

First off I didn't think any one else would have a Friday surgery date and the only reason my guy did it was that he was on call anyway!

I went out today for the first time to a deli and the look I got from the girl at the counter was priceless. I ordered turkey and cheese. She asks what kind of bread...none thank you...mustard....no....lettuce.....no just turkey and salad. I eat about half and was fine.

What is killing me the not drinking and eating thing.

I had surgery on April 13th and I still don't feel hungry. I had to set alarms on my phone to remind myself to eat. It's crazy. I struggled with the Water but it's gotten better. I get 50 oz a day but I have to really work at it (remember). The only thing I have craved is pizza (because every other commercial on tv is a pizza commercial). Saw my surgeon Tuesday for 6 week check and am cleared for regular diet but mentally I'm not ready. Thought I was but it kinda freaks me out a little so I'm still eating the deli meats and tuna and an occasional shake. Oh and I got the crazy look at Subway when I ordered a 6 inch sandwich with no bread, no Condiments and no veggies. Hahaha.

Yes!!! I feel better now that you explained your post surgery weight with bloating. I too was so physically bloated and heavy. I finally weighed myself 4 days post op when I felt the bloat dissipating and was 18 pounds higher still than pre surgery! I'm ending my 8th day post op and still need to lose 4 pounds to get back to preop weight. It's frustrating. Thank you for sharing.

Real good pizza company has an awesome high carb pizza with only 4 grams of carb. The crust is made with chicken. Kroger sells them or you can use the store locator on the website.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
