Hello all!

I'm a little concerned about my progress right now. It's not lack of progress that has me slightly worried, it's how quick the progress is. I want to make sure that something isn't actually wrong. I feel generally ok, a little woozy sometimes, but that's about it.

I had my surgery May 26th. My preop was only one day, but i lost 4 lbs in that day. O_O.

Ever since, I have been losing 2 to 3 lbs A DAY. I am down to 239.2 this morning. Losing 16 lbs in 5 days sounds a little crazy. I am getting in about 70-80g of Protein a day with about 33 to 45 oz of liquid. I was honestly expecting to lose about 2-3 lbs a week with this surgery. Did this happen to anyone else? I am even having regular bowel movements with minimal discomfort (had one on Sunday, Monday and yesterday). I guess I should note too, that I don't walk that much. I have short spurts of energy were i walk for about 15 minutes straight, and the rest of the day is just moving around the house.

Everything sounds fine.. but keep working to get your Water up.

Everyone loses 10 pounds virtually immediately because it is 2 pounds of glycogen (sugar in the muscles) plus 8 pounds of water.

So, you've only lost a few pounds of fat. From here out, you can expect the losses to slow down.. but it can still be 1/4 to 1 pound a day.

I don't know how far out you are, Constance, but I'll assume at least 8 weeks post op.

First, is it possible to clean out the no no foods from your house? I know most people share a house with non-dieting folk.

Many of us are very carb-sensitive, particularly for wheat and sugar. If we eat some, it sets off huge cravings. Once we figure out what does that to us, we cut those things out completely.

The general idea postop is to eat 4-5 times a day, about 4 ounces of food each time. Protein should be about 2-3 ounces, with vegetables making up the rest.

I'm 10 weeks postop (and today marks my 50lb down mark!) Here is my meal plan. I eat basically the same thing each day.

1. Coffee/milk/vitamins

2. fruit or v8 or spinach/fruit smoothie

3. Egg and 4oz Beans

4. 4oz cottage cheese

5. 4oz meat or fish

6. 1oz nuts

It's 70g protein and around 1100-1200 calories. 60g carbs unless I go crazy on the fruit.

I find it easiest to have a plan and stick to it. If I'm hungry I go ahead and eat or get a cup of tea or coffee.

Others have their own meal plans posted around the site. You can compare to see how different we all are... but we each stick to a plan that's working for us. That is the important thing.

You are welcome! It can be a lonely journey. I think that's why this board is so active :)

My doctor said if you are losing super quickly your body is eating up muscle to fuel itself. Slow and steady is the best route. Now if you are working out with weights to build muscle I wouldn't concerned. But of course discuss it with your doctor!!

a lot of people drop weight really quickly the first month (unfortunately, I was not one of them). But no worries - it's mostly Water and will slow down *a lot* after your initial drop.

IT'S NORMAL. FIRST WEEK I LOST 15LBS. FIRST MONTH I LOST 39 LBS. AFTER THE FIRST MONTH I STARTED SLOWING DOWN TO ABOUT 2-3LBS A WEEK. JUST KEEP UP YOUR LIQUID AND TRY TO WALK AT LEAST 30 MINS.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
