I'm 3weeks post RNY and gained 2 lbs in the past two days. How is this possible?!

Your weight will fluctuate during the day. My clothes can even add 5 pounds to my total. So just keep following the program guidelines and you will do well.

Some times individuals will stress about their daily weight readings. Stressing can sometimes add weight. So many individuals restrict themselves to checking their weight once per week or once per month.

I'm in the same boat as you! And 3 weeks post op to the day and weigh 2 pounds more than I did a few days ago. We have to remember that gains at this stage are most likely hormonal/water weight. It's highly unlikely that we're consuming enough calories to gain fat (1 pound of fat=3500 Calories).

If you're easily anxious like me and also following a low carb diet, you could choose to buy some ketone strips. A bottle of them is inexpensive. You just pee on one and it'll tell you if your body is releasing ketones or not (ketones are one sign that your body has turned to burning fat for energy)

Good luck!

Everyone is shocked when the scale first jumps up by a pound or three. It's a normal part of the weight loss adventure. It is not fat weight. And there is nothing you have done wrong or could do to prevent it.

Watching the scale for me is like watching the ball in a basketball game (except each basket scored is a pound lost)... there is a lot more dribbling and passing that occurs than successful baskets! (And that breathless pause as the ball circles the rim is spot on too!)

you might be entering the infamous "three-week stall", and your weight might be up slightly because of Water retention or full intestines. Just stick to your plan - it'll pass and you'll be on your way to losing again!

I can go up or down by 4 pounds from one day to the next. If you can't sometimes ignore the crazy fluctuations, don't weigh daily - it was the best advice I was given. Then I realized that I can't let the scale determine my success. Sometimes, inches go away when pounds don't seem to. Don't sweat it unless that two pounds stays around for more than a week.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
