food choices post-op

Recommended Posts

I have been eating healthy for some time now but my love of carbs is my downfall. That and eating after work (I get off at 11:30pm). I even fell into the habit of getting up (half-asleep), going out to the kitchen, getting some Cookies or something (lowfat of course) and going back to bed with them. I'd wake up with Cookies in my hand and start eating them again while falling asleep. Bad bad bad. Well weight watchers is my 'diet' of choice and the other day my dim bulb came on and I thought, "I could easily do the Core version with this band. If you don't know the Core version of weight watchers is where you monitor your eating by your feeling of fullness. You have this list of foods that you choose from (great variety I think) and you learn to listen to your body and it's signals for satiety. I've not seen anyone really talk about a real food plan for after surgery although I may have missed it. I thought it was brilliant! I mean, I couldn't have done the Core if I weren't banded because I was hungry all the time! My body was betraying me. But NOW I will be the boss and it will succumb less and make more healthy choices. Whaddya all think?

Yeah, I've been thinking the same thing. In fact, I'm probably going to be joining WW once I get to the point where I can eat 'normal' foods. I think the core plan is the healthiest choice anyway. My surgeon hasn't really given us much of a post-op diet, so I guess it's up to me anyway!

I am paying a dietiatian(sp?) to help me get all the correct food I need with the lap band. It was very difficult to find one in Canada, but I didn't give up. I am not going this road alone. I see her in two weeks; when I start the "mushies".

There is a list of food stages in the food Thread. You should check there for some ideas.

My dietician gave me some clues on which way to go. Im in the second stage, full liquids and doing creamed Soups, cream of wheat, shakes in between... if that helps.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
