Protein shakes post op and protein water

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I get sleeved on the 13th of this month at beth Israel deaconess in Boston. I'm on day one of my pre op liquid diet. My pre op exam is this morning at the hospital.

About a month ago I saw a recommendation for a popular post op low sugar shake that was still tasty and went down easy but since can't find that posting, even with the search function. I also saw on this forum someone mentioning Protein Water. May someone who has already succeeded with this and liked what they purchased let me know what they did? Just wanting to be proactive and get my Amazon order in. Thanks

It may have been mention of Premier Protein products. I have found they are really good. But don't order in bulk from Amazon - I found that my tastes changed after surgery. Things I loved before tasted terrible for the first few weeks after surgery. Test a variety of Protein both pre-mixed and powder to see what you like.

Thank you for your input. I do have premier shakes for pre op but it's too much sugar for post op.

i wasn't aware they made low sugar ones I'll have to check that out

I had premier for preop and then when I started my liquid preop diet my doc banned all premier, boost, ensure and all other of the "yummy" Protein Shakes. He said they were not approved and shouldn't be used due to sugar or carb or calorie and Protein ratios being too poor. The best one I found on the list (highest ratio of protein to calories with no carbs sugars) was Isopure powder

I was just sleeved on 5/22. My doctor didn't ban Premier Protein, and in fact said that it was a great option with the most bang for your buck. I also have been drinking premier Protein Water, its got a funny texture to it but it is manageable. I have not yet tried but heard good things about the nectar Brand fruity protein for when you don't want the creamy consistency.

Sleeved May 24th. I wish I can drink shakes, for some reason I can't tolerate them so I'm stuck with clear Protein isolate for now. My doctor also said no to Premier and no to greek yogurt, he's on the conservative side. Today my delivery came in to try another clear protein. I hope I like it....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
