No sodium broths in Trader Joe's or Whole Foods?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone recommend a good tasting brand? My 1st day of my liquid diet is today along with my pre op and it's too late for Amazon.

One thing I will say is that I am looking forward to not spending so much money on food. My office orders takeout every day (some days it is paid for). I work in an Italian neighborhood full of yummy restaurants. It is so hard to resist normally but the liquid diet will give me the push to say no. I've even asked the receptionist to leave me off the daily emails.

I have tried chicken bouillon envelopes mixed with hot Water. I also used low sodium butternut squash Soup from trader's joe and carrot ginger soup from trader's joe. The soup weren't tasty but you use unflavored Protein Powder with it and it feels you up.

I love the lamb broth a whole foods. It isn't low sodium though.

A low carb diet is a diuretic, ketosis has a strong diuretic effect. You need sodium in your diet if you are on a low carb diet.

They have Bone Broth at Whole Foods, it is cheap and doesn't take 14 plus hours to make.

Make sure you read the label of every broth you buy, some have added sugar and a lot of them have carbs from flour thickeners.

Whole foods has a wider variety than trader joe's and that is where I purchased all my broths.

I do not like the taste of any of the Trader Joe's broths. YMMV

I just had my first broth of the pre-op diet and I am a little disgusted. So bland! I need to go check out Whole Foods. Don't think I can survive on bland, watery broth for a week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
