Pre op weight loss tips?

Recommended Posts

I've lost about 15 pounds from my highest weight which was 377 back in April. I'm at 362 now and my nutritionist Pre op weight was already hit but my surgeon wants me to get to 340 before I start the two week liquid diet prior to surgery. My nut has me on a modified liquid as of last week to boost the weight loss because it isn't coming off very fast. Right now I'm doing a Premier Protein for Breakfast with 2 cuties, same for lunch and then a high Protein low carb dinner, ex. 2 oz tuna, 2 cups broccoli, an oz of Swiss cheese. I saw my surgeon on 5/18 and I was at 365, I'm only down 3 pounds since then and I see him again on 6/9. Anyone have a similar experience and have any other tips to shed a few extra pounds before I see him? I've also been walking about 2 miles 4-5 days a week with some stairs. This is all just so new to me and any advice or insight is appreciated!! I'm just afraid of what he may say when I see him next lol my anxiety is high since I'm cleared everywhere besides my surgeon!

What are you drinking? I recommend you cut out all carbonated beverages, especially soda, no fruit juices, limited coffee (unless black), and no alcohol. I would also stop the cuties or any other fruit. Eat Protein first then non-starchy veggies, and plenty of Water.

As MarinaGirl said, wean yourself from caffeine and carbonated beverages now. After I gave up my 6 diet coke a day habit, I suffered from a week of severe withdrawal syndrome consisting of severe headaches and body aches. I was miserable. You don't want to combine the effects of caffeine withdrawal with the effects of surgery. On this change alone, I lost 20 pounds pre-op.

And stop consuming artificial sweeteners as they do not aid weight loss.

I am primarily drinking Water but sometimes I do drink a Diet Coke on the weekend so yeah cutting that out would probably be best... and that's what I thought about the fruit? ? But my nut put that in my plan.. but I guess I could cut that out and if I need to chew something have a cup of broccoli or another non starchy veggie??

stress/anxiety will also keep the weight.(at least from my point of view) dont stess (i know how hard that is because i stress too) but when you mentally keep all the bad in. your body does the same. try meditation? or something that is going to make you happy. calm. and keep that mindset. :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
