5 months post vsg pregnant and vomiting

Recommended Posts

5 months after my vsg surgery, I inadvertently became pregnant (Not really getting into the details here). First trimester I had horrible morning sickness and eventually got on Zofran. It helped a lot... for awhile. But now, I am getting into my 2nd trimester and everytime I eat, I vomit. It's not immediately like with the morning sickness-- but 10, 20, 30mins after eating. My ob says that it's my esophageal sphincter relaxing due to hormones (the acid coming up triggers my gag reflexes). He prescribed prilosec 2 times a day, which I was already on once daily bc of vsg. I'm eating smaller portions than before the pregnancy. Nothing has helped, and I'm so tired of vomit. Has anyone been through this? HELP!

I hadn't had my surgery yet, but I had hyperemesis with my second daughter. I couldn't keep anything down. I found out I had either GERD or something else that I forget the name of. Anyway, zofran and a heavy duty acid blocker helped, but it didn't eliminate it. I have no solutions for you [emoji53] but I have LOTS of sympathy.

Just putting it out there, but there are a ton of remedies that you can try. Just do a google search, and there are lists. Flat ginger drinks, accupressure on your ears, etc.

I also had lots of morning sickness. 19 weeks of it with my last. (Although you have me beat in severity). Hope you find something that works!

Oh, and congratulations!

Thanks so much! :) Yea, I've tried all sorts of ginger remedies. I haven't done the acupressure though. I'll definitely look into that one!

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
