Looking in to Mexico for the sleeve. I want an accredited hospital and noticed Oasis Hospital is international joint accredited, but the site show Dr Cano and Dr Gonzalez. I thought Dr. Illan and Ponce were with Oasis? I am confused. I see very good things about Dr. Illan, but I want to make sure that I am in a top notch facility in case anything goes wrong( I have had 3 c-sections and one laparoscopic tubal). I also like the Obesity Control Center and Dr. Ortiz.....It's so hard with so many great reviews on several surgeons. I have to quit smoking and gather money before making my final decision.

Also, How long is the expected time off work? I have 6 days left for 2017 and would love to do it this year, but if I need more than a week off I will have to do it 2018.

Thank you

I've researched surgeons as well. I narrowed down to 3 and then personally I loved everything I was reading and was talking about with Dr. illan's patients. I finally just went with my gut reaction and scheduled my appt. I have a desk job, time off isn't an issue but I'm scheduled for 7/3. That's a quiet week at work historically. I intend to go back the following Monday, even if part-time. From everything I've read, as long as I drink water/protein, I may get tired but should be okay. Maybe if you want to do your surgery this year, schedule on a Friday. Fly in that morning and plan around holiday weeks where there would be one less day off plus then you've got 4 extra days with weekends. You could schedule end of June, for July 4th, just before Labor Day or one of the other upcoming holidays - if your company gives you those federal holidays. Just a thought. 😊 I would be there now if my end of months weren't a nightmare.

I'm going to Dr Gerardo Garcia Alvarez at Bariatric Mexico. I have 8 people in my life that have gone there in the last year. They are phenomenal!! Even 2 months before my surgery I am seeing the quality of their work and quality of care. Their coordinator makes you feel like family. He answers my text messages or phone calls anytime of the day or night. Very prompt to get back to me, very helpful with me finding financing.. because I needed a loan to get it.. I mean I just can't say enough about how great this place is. It's a little bit more expensive but well worth it when it comes to your health as far as I'm concerned

I wish I could schedule for the first of July, I have vacation scheduled in TX but we are visiting family :( I was thinking I could schedule around holiday too. My job isn't very strenuous either.

I understand, I wish I was there now lol. I have family in Texas as well. I haven't visited in a few years due to work and daughter was doing competition cheer for 5 years, travel was constant, far and expensive. Hoping to get back soon! I would shoot for a holiday, like I mentioned use the weekends as extra days for recovery. Really didn't tell many people at work what I was doing. There are three girls in the office there that know and one of them is my supervisor. She already told me if I need the week off after it wouldn't be a problem, just doesn't sound like it would be necessary. I guess we will see 😊

Thank you Dr. Illan for the response. I would love to set something up to discuss this with you. You do the single incision sleeve, correct? Can that be done on someone who had a tubal ligation through the belly button or would you suggest the conventional? Are there any risks to someone with scar tissues from previous c-sections?

Thank you so much

I've been looking for financing and was quoted a $1995 processing fee for a $3000 loan with 18% interest through United medical credit so it would be $4995 plus interest to pay back. I felt like giving up on other places if they all charge so much up front.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
