Day 1 post op - my surprises

Recommended Posts

I never weigh myself. I'm 2 years out. I let my clothes speak for me. I don't own scales. I let the doc's office weigh me and that's it. Immediately postop you are bloated from all the IV fluids and the surgery itself. I don't recommend weighing for the 1st month at all. Just let the change in clothing sizes let you feel good about yourself towards the end of the 1st month. I'm very laid-back about being overweight or a more normal weight. I had surgery for 2 reasons, I was overweight, but I wasnt depressed about it. And more importantly, I have a heart condition that forced me to lose weight. Bypass in my case was the best choice because I'm also disabled.
My hubs had to tell me to go clothes shopping when I couldn't fit in his jeans anymore (I cheated and stole his 1st) I wore a size 40 waist at my largest and he wears a 34 waist. I just didn't want to buy clothes I would wear a week or 2 at most. Turned out to be a smart move. I got maybe a week or 2 in his jeans before he made me go buy smaller sizes.

I can't wait to be able to fit into my husband's pants. He wears a size 34 and never in my life I've been able to fit into them. I'm sure when I'm finally able to put them on lll find that it's time to get new clothesAndrew got me home safe and sound. Resting now in his recliner. Hope you're doing well!

Love this! I'm not sure if I can let go of the scale altogether when my time comes but I'll keep this in mind. Thanks for sharing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
