Redmaxx 740 Posted May 25, 2017 I had a post op sleep study 3 weeks ago today and still have not heard anything about how the study went. I private messaged him (that is how you communicate with VA doctors) and was told the doctor reviewed my sleep study and will be getting with me shortly (that was last Thursday). I am starting to rethink my using the VA for everything (just did it so all my doctors are in the same place and it makes it easier for them to share records) and going back to using non-VA doctors (when I used them I was able to get results and appointments pretty easy). I mean I know they are busy doctors but come on, 3 weeks is a little extreme while waiting for results. 1 Navigating the Wilderness reacted to this
Navigating the Wilderness 824 Posted May 25, 2017 I have a friend who has gone through the VA for cancer treatment, and they have pretty much neglected him until he is at death's door. It has been a sad experience. 1 Redmaxx reacted to this
Sherrie Scharbrough 311 Posted May 25, 2017 I really have had very bad experience's with the VA and my hubby!! It took them 3 years to tell us that he has Cancer on his kidney!! It was horrible. An advocacy told us that we have a case and we should get a lawyer and sue the VA. But we can't find a lawyer who will take on the GOVERMENT. Sad but oh so true. Our local VA is the ones that took so long. Now FINALLY he is going up tomorrow for his Preop appointment. Then on the May 30th they are going to do a ablation which destroys the Cancer and then they will keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't come back. He is way lucky that it is a very slow growing tumor. BTW we ARE NOT using this VA. We are going to Portland, Oregon to that VA. The great thing about this is the well known excellent hospital OREGON HEALTH AND SCIENCE UNIVERSARY is connected to the VA and they work together on cases if needed. I totally get what you are saying about the VA. I can say this because he was in the NAVY, I get what they call CHAMP VA I get all of my meds by mail free and I don't have to pay co-pay when I see my DR's. I get better treatment than he does because I get to pick my own DR. I'm grateful as all get out. II will have this for the rest of my life!! YAY me
Redmaxx 740 Posted June 20, 2017 UPDATE: Here we are almost 7 weeks since the sleep study and still no report or letter or phone call about the sleep study. Maybe I should just stop using the CPAP machine and when I go to my next appointment (24 August 2017) tell them since I never heard anything I "assumed" that I didn't need it anymore? valkh 1 Posted July 6, 2017 I think sleep studies are a joke.... they wanted me to do one too, and said that it was up to me. I chose not to. I think almost everyone has it to some extent, mine will get better when I lose this weight.
Redmaxx 740 Posted July 6, 2017 I initially went to the sleep doctor because many years ago when I worked midnights and my wife and daughter's where visiting family in NY I woke up not being able to catch my breath. I couldn't inhale or exhale. I thought I was going to die. I went to the sleep doctor, had the sleep study and in the morning g they told me that I needed to come back that night or else I was going to die. I went back that night and they put me on a CPAP machine. Now fast forward to today, I do everything at the VA hospital and they don't have the capabilities to do the sleep study at my VA hospital so they farmed it out to a local hospital that has the AutoPAP machine. Here it is 9 weeks to the day that I had my sleep study and still no report, phone call, e-mail or a F off and die from the sleep doctor or the VA.
Stella S 612 Posted July 12, 2017 YFile a complaint with the licensing board for the healthcare professional that performed the study carbon copy your VA doctor the patient advocate at the VA as well as the clinic that perform the sleep study. Failure to provide test results falls under neglect in the last couple years the VA has gotten such bad press it seems the care should have increased. My experience with my husband has been positive at the VA but that doesn't seem to mean they can give him a diagnosis ora cure. Neither can public private educational institutions 1 Redmaxx reacted to this
