Hi all!

Did your nutritionists give you an idea of how many calories you should be taking in? I understand Water and Protein are the biggest priorities (I'm 3 weeks post op today) but I'd like to gage the foods I'm taking in and if they are worth it or not. What about after the 5 stages, any recommendations there too? Thanks so much!

Sleeved may 3rd (-29lbs since surgery)

not for me.... in the beginning I don't think you can eat enough to worry about the calories but I am not sure

3 weeks post op I was at around 400-600 calories a day. I upped it to 600-800 calories about 3 months post op. Then 800-1000 6 months post op. Then at 8 1/2 months post op I went to 1000-1200. I'm almost a year out and now eat 1200 calories a day. They said that is what my goal will be for life now.

Not in my plan. No calorie counting for me. Thank God! Just the old fashioned listen to your body. Eat when hungry. Etc.

That is what I was told as well.

Congrats on your weight loss. I was sleeved may 5 and have lost 21 lbs. my nutritionist gave me guidelines of three meals a day. 1 ounce protein and one ounce fruit, 1 ounce protein and one ounce veggie, one ounce protein and one ounce starch. I can eat shredded chicken or tuna or ground beef. All
Other meats I have to put in a blender. These are in addition to the 75-90 grams of protein from drinks.

I'm one week post surgery and feel terrific. I've never kept a scale, so I honestly don't know what I've lost. On Tuesday, at my pcp said I was down about 18 pounds. I'm struggling getting enough Protein in, probably because I don't like the taste, but I'll push forward. I'm excited to see what the outcome will be. Best of luck all!

I wasn't given any calorie guidelines just Protein and Water. I am supposed to get 65-80g protein and 64oz of water. I am 10 days post op and I hit 500 calories today.

I wasn't given any calorie count and I don't think it's an issue after surgery with the amount you can eat. Calorie counting shouldn't be your main priority at this point it should be "Healthy" eating. If your worried about eating "junk" eg. pizza, hamburgers and fries those days are long gone. You need to change your mind set. I have come to terms I'll never have a chocolate bar again.:57_cry: However Sugar Free Chocolate pudding is a good sub.

Thank you all for the input. My main reason for asking is that I'm not having a hard time restricting too many foods. I'm still making smart decisions and eating the suggested foods, but my plan doesn't really quantify how much of anything except for Protein and Water. I've been tracking via MFP and am somewhere between 600-800 calories each day, with 1-2 miles a day. Sounds like it may vary greatly on the person so I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing. Have a great day all!! Thanks again!

Good deal. Just remember with all the exercise you do and if you find yourself in a stall, you might need to add a few more calories to break it. You should get with your nut when that time comes. :) Blessings hon.

My meal program after surgery actually goes by tablespoon sizes and ounces not actual calorie count. For eg. Today I'm having 1/2 cup of veg Soup (homemade...I love to cook) and a small avocado mashed with a little lime and salt and pepper...okay I tbsp of 50 % fat free mayo (50 cal) I didn't have 1% sour cream. shoot me! LOL That lunch will do me.. I could have two Melba toast crackers if I want... but I don't

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
