Hustonr91 0 Posted May 24, 2017 Hey all, This is my first post on this site, but I have been following and reading many posts before and following my surgery. I finally decided to speak up and talk about some of my experiences so far. For starters, my first couple weeks post surgery went well, but boy were they miserable. Now when I say "miserable," I do not mean that I was in pain or that I had regrets, but it was more of a matter of it being a full time job plus overtime just trying to stay hydrated and fed. Before surgery, I was a chugger. I would just down obscene amounts of Water at different intervals during the day and that is how I functioned. The same came from my eating habits. I would just eat twice a day, but large amounts and at a significant pace. I realize in hindsight that those things were part of the reason I got to be as unhealthy as I was. The learning curve came in viciously as I had to relearn consumption habits. I had to carry around 3 different cups during the day to get in my diluted juice, water, and Protein Shakes throughout the day. I had to set alarms to remind myself to eat and exercise. Now that I am 5 weeks out, I have come a long way already. I've lost 30 lbs post surgery, I have been able to take larger swallows of liquids at a higher rate as well, and best of all I can finally eat ALMOST NORMAL FOOD! Basically over the course of this past month, I have cooked in bulk and eaten the same thing for 2 weeks at a time, interjecting some fruits when I could. I have my first follow up appointment with my doctor tomorrow and I know he is going to nail me on my Protein consumption because I am horrible about remembering to drink my shakes, but I am trying. They are just disgusting and I am getting burnt out on them. If you guys have any suggestions on different types of protein shakes or unflavored powders, I would appreciate them. I need them to be somewhat budgetable though. Currently on Sam's Premier chocolate powder. Anyways, thanks for listening to my ramblings and I look forward to hearing from you guys. Share away btw. I love learning of other's experiences!
susiesue 12 Posted May 24, 2017 Oh wow, that's an amazing weight loss, well done you. I am just coming up to 5 weeks ( sleeved 24/4/17) and have lost 22 lbs, which I'm perfectly happy with. I'm not having any Protein Shakes, I absolutely hate them, and I'm so sick and tired of spending money on different ones only to discover that they're foul ! I'm trying to get in as much Protein as poss from food, but it's sooo hard, and I've been told by my dietician that I need to up my protein now to 65g daily. I can get my protein intake up, but then my fat / sugar intake is too high. So I'm struggling. I have eggs every day for Breakfast, and I carry a chilled lunch bag with me wherever I go now with grilled chicken breast, and low fat cheese, Greek yoghurt, and beef Jerky ( which I love ) so whenever I'm hungry, I eat from my protein stash. I know it would be much easier to find a palatable Protein Shake, but I suspect we don't have as much choice here in UK.

How long are you expected to drink Protein shakes my doctor said he don't want me drinking liquid calories but I know you have to have them for a certain period after surgery. Second I have a lot of posts on here about the protein that I drink it is very healthy and nutritious and it's all made out of plants. Garden of life has the most nutrients and 50 plants superfoods. 1 MsNat3 reacted to this

I love learning of other's experiences! Amazing weight loss! I was 5 weeks out yesterday (Wednesday) our stories sound so similar. I have alarms set for everything lol. I'm bad about drinking shakes over eating tho. I'm working on that. I drink the slim fast advanced nutrition mocha shake, for breakfast, and the chocolate advanced nutrition slim fast brand. Thier gluten, & lactose free. Good luck with your journey! Here if you ever need an ear!! Having a amazing support system makes all the difference! Kim622 8 Posted May 25, 2017 My go to has become the Premier Protien shakes (sorry OCC but that Vitaleph is disgusting!)Premier is low sugar, high protien and premade.Additionally, you dont just have the option of choc, vanilla or strawberry but flavors like caramel and banana cream.May be available is stores too but I think the best option is to just order on line.Awesome wgt loss to date.Keep it up.I too was a Water guzzler and am 2 1/2 wks post op.Its definatly a learning experienceSent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using BariatricPal mobile app
Firefighter12Wife 28 Posted May 25, 2017 I am 4 weeks post op today and have lost a total of 49 lbs, 24 since surgery. I am still supplimenting with shakes to up my Protein. I LOVE my shake mix! I use Bariatric Advantage (you can get it on Amazon) the chocolate one, then I mix in a half serving of the PB2 powder and it soooooo tastes like a reeces pb egg! Plus the PB2 ups the protein to just under 30g per 8oz shake! Try it you guys, trust me you will love it! Starting phase 5 today, but still mostly eating scrambled eggs and Soup. Also drinking Isopure grape to add protein. Going to try some other things for dinner tonight. Keeping my fingers crossed! Let me know what you think if you try my PB2 trick with the chocolate shakes =)Sent from my SM-G900V using BariatricPal mobile app
