Hello everyone! Here is my WLS story...I got banded on 8/2014 SW:369, I am now almost 3 years out and weigh 335lbs. Clearly I failed my lap-band. I try not to be hard on myself but its almost impossible not to be. Post-op I had 2 pregnancies (1 of which was a demise) So needless to say my weight was up and down, at my lowest I went down to 312lbs. I recently had a baby boy 12/2016 highest prepartum weight was 345lbs, I came down to 335lbs postpartum, had a fill on 5/3/2017- initially I went down 6lbs and now I'm back up! I am not a victim here..I know my eating habits play a major role. There are days where I am your regular Jillian Michaels and others where I'm eating like a 15 y/o boy going through a serious growth spurt.

Nonetheless, I feel defeated. I am scheduled to have another fill on 6/5/2017, but called my surgeon and asked for a VSG consult instead. I am lost, confused..torn all of the above. Part of me feels like I just need to get back on track and remain consistent..the other part of me feels the band is just not enough for me and the amount of weight I need to lose. Help! I could really use some advice. Thank you in advance!

Try not to beat yourself up too bad. Lap Bands have a notoriously poor success rate. I had mine for 5 years and the most I ever lost was 50 pounds, but was back to starting weight within two years. I converted to VSG in one operation in February and the results have been far better than those I had with the band.

I'm going through the proses of getting the sleeve. At my meeting last night, they said that they hardly ever do the band anymore. In a meeting with 8 other people, 3 getting the bypass and 5 getting the sleeve, 6 including myself.

God bless.

This makes me feel I did best choice by not getting lap band! Vsg is a great tool and is very popular. I would research and do hw before making decision! Best of luck to you :)

You are not alone. I had the lapband for close to five years and never lost more than fifteen pounds. I had it taken out about five years ago, and have felt like a huge failure ever since. I mean, come on, I failed at the most drastic thing I could do to lose weight- surgery!! Then, last year, I ventured back on to the WL forums and discovered that the lapband itself was a failure.

I do take responsibility for some of the failure of course, but the lap band was NOT the right tool for me. I've started seeing a therapist to help me determine whether or not I should try again with the sleeve. I'm pretty far along on the road to approval, but I need to make sure my head is in the right place before I take that leap again.

there are a LOT of people on here who have gone to the sleeve after having little or no success with the lapband. You definitely aren't alone. :D

Ive been there !!! I got my lapband in april of 2013 .. lost 80 pounds and found out i was pregnant the following October ! My start weight was 305 im now 315 and my daughter is now 2 .im getting my band taken out and getting the sleeve 6/29 . Im so excited im tired of failing at all diets . Ive really been trying so hard to loose weight on my own but it wasn't working. My drs basically told me the band wasnt as effective anymore and that most of this patients are going from band to sleeve . I also feel the bad just wasn't enough . I think you should definitely consider it ! Talk to your dr find out the pros and cons it doesnt hurt to do some research. Im actually really excited over this and originally back in 2013 i was anti sleeve bc of how permanent it was . My mind set has definitely changed since then !

My Dr hates the lapband. He told me that wasn't even an option & a lot of people have complications with it.

I have the band, am looking into revision to DS. I have one more appt before they submit to insurance. I started at 239 down to 185 and back up to 242 in the past 6 years. My surgeon and I decided to go the DS route since revisions have a slower rate of loss and DS has better statistics in the regain category.

My band was great the first year til my gallbladder decided it wanted out. After that it was a straight uphill climb. I can't wait to get this thing out!

Thank you all for sharing your stories with me, I felt so alone and now not so much. I also felt like a failure but now I realize failing only occurs when you stop trying. I got my approval for revision to VSG today, surgery is scheduled for 7/17/2017!!!

I wish you all luck with your planned revisions and journey <3

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
