June sleeve. A little shaky!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! Im new to the group. I don't know what going to happen if I don't get the 8 lbs off by June 1st . That's the date I schedule my surgery. I did my 6 month trial. But while during the 6 months trail my asthma flared up and I was put on steroids and I gained. But the dietary nurse wasn't trying to hear it. She said get the weight off. My health depend on this sleeve.

8 lbs in a week is going to be tough. The only way I know of is liquid fast. 3 Protein Shakes a day & that's it. You'll get all the nutrition you'll need. And walk everyday. 3 miles if you can. At least 1 & do it every day. I did a 2 week liquid fast using Premier Protein shakes. Hardest thing I've ever done but I lost 35 lbs in 2 weeks. Good Luck

I'm 2 years post op & have lost 185 lbs

Not sure what your current diet is, but I lost 3 pounds in a 6 day clear liquid only diet and another 3 pounds just last night after taking the required magnesium citrate drink. This was all the 1 week preop diet requirement for me as my surgery is this morning. Maybe something like that will help you. It sucks, but it's a necessary evil if it can get you where you need to be.

I don't get it, are they refusing to do surgery unless you lose 8 pounds by June 1?

Why do you need to lose 8lbs? During the 6 month process did you have to lose a certain amount of weight in order to get surgery?

I was to lose or maintain the weight I had but I gained.

That sounds ridiculous! Honestly if that is the case I would continue to lose weight as healthily as I could and push back the surgery. Yes there are ways to lose 8 pounds in a week, but they are unhealthy and I would want to go into surgery as healthy as possible to avoid any setbacks.

Then I would've to do the whole 6 months over again

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
