Needing Advice & Support

Hi! I had sleeve surgery 4 months ago. I'm very scared as I feel alone. I don't get a lot of questions answered by my surgeon and I feel no matter what I do, it's not enough for him. I expect too much from myself and wonder if I'm doing things right. I'm obsessive about thinking the pouch will stretch. I am losing slow, and then it doesn't move for a week or more. Right now, I just need to know I'm not the only one who feels lonely in this journey.

Hi dear, believe me, we are all in the same boat. I'm 8 months out of surgery and only half way to goal. I've been stuck at the same weight for 2 months and feeling depressed about it. I remind myself how much healthier I am and how much happier and more energetic compared to before. I remind myself that everyone goes through periods where the weight doesn't shift and that can last for months, but as long as you are getting your Protein and exercise in, you will start losing again. Finally, I remind myself that without this operation, I could never gave seen the same results in the same time period. You aren't alone, you will be fine :-) if you have specific questions regarding the operation and it's aftereffects, people here are really helpful

Hmm, I was about 50 pounds heavier than you at surgery, and am at about the same amount of weight loss since surgery (80 pounds). My surgeon said I was ahead of the curve for weight loss, so not sure why your's is giving you crap about it.

Do you have the pouch or the sleeve?

Is it correct that you weigh 146? That's great! How much more do you expect to lose? Sounds like your deficient in Vitamin D or some other Vitamin or nutrients. I'm not a doctor but it sounds like you might benefit from seeing a counselor or the Dr that did your psych evaluation. That's what their here for! Another thing is you might go back to the instructions you were first givin & make sure your still on the right track. Find something to do that you weren't able to do before surgery. Heck I went roller skating for the first time in many years with my son last weekend & was sore after but had a blast! I haven't had surgery until next Tuesday but before switching to a vegan lifestyle & the pre-op diet weight loss it wouldn't have happened. Good luck & hope you get feeling good again!

It looks like you and I are very close on many accounts.

I am getting the same impressions from my surgeon and I didn't get much in the way of the nutritionist either. There is a January sleeve group I just posted in asking some of the same questions you are, you aren't alone at all. I've had the same stalls for a week or more, questioned what I can do better, what I should do more of, how should I be eating different.

The big step is reaching out and looking for help. Keep asking questions, keep learning more!

I'm hoping that on my June 5th appointment I can talk face to face with people instead of back and forth through email. I'll make sure I keep in touch with what feedback I get.

Stalls are normal. You don't lose weight every day or ever week. Your body needs to adjust.

I had one month I lost zero pounds but 2 dress sizes.

If you are eating right you have nothing to worry about the weight will come off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
