Those of you 5 months post op...

Recommended Posts

Or those of you passed that point but that can remember that time....

My surgery is 5/31 and I'm going on my honeymoon in October and we're going to Europe. I obviously know I will be eating much, much less but I want to be able to taste different foods without eating everything in sight like I normally would. Is that something that's possible at 5 months or will I still not be eating real foods? I understand the sleeve is a tool, and I intend to use it that way, I'm just more interested to see if I'll be eating regularly (for a sleeved person) at that time or still introducing foods.

Thanks!

At 5 months I would hope that you are back on regular food. Really you will be able to eat anything. But there are the things that you shouldn't eat and you should know what those are. Good luck to you.

At 5 months you should be all set. You won't be able to eat much but you will be able to be so active and feeling wonderful. Congratulations!!

I think some of this answer will come from how well you personally recover as we are all different. I am almost 4 months post-op and I have no foods that I cannot tolerate. There is definitely less hunger and cravings, and I am very happy and healthy right now! Enjoy your Honeymoon!!

I am 4 months postop and I could have easily gone to Europe last month. Enjoy your trip!!

Thank you all for the responses and also for letting me know I won't have a problem being active! I have so many excursions set up and I didn't even think about whether or not I would be able to do them! I really appreciate your answers!

I've not had an issue tolerating foods. I will be 5 months on Friday and can eat pretty much anything. I don't... but I can.

I went to Asia at 3 months post-op and Europe at 4.5 months post-op and I had no issues on either trip. I pretty much ate lean Protein and green vegetables everywhere I went (which is what I eat day-to-day even at home and even now). The only thing that I couldn't find in Asia or Europe that I normally eat is cottage cheese. Everything else was similar.

Good luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
