What were you doing post-op?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on May 19th and I feel like I'm slacking a little bit. So I just wanted to know what everyone was doing at my stage for exercise. I saw that someone was already walking 2 miles! I'm still in a little bit of pain, but I still make sure that I walk for at least 15-20 minutes. Is that too little? But what were you doing at this stage?

I was walking 2 to 3 times a day for at least 15 minutes at a time. You don't have to go fast but you need to keep moving.

Starting on about day 5 I was walking about 2.5 miles per day. However, I was not in any pain and have had a relatively easy recovery. Everyone is different and you should definitely listen to your body.

My spa (tanning, massage, hydrotherapy, etc.) is about a mile from my house. I walked to and from the spa each afternoon, giving me a 2 mile walk. I did that every day starting in week 2 post-op. I still do that now, but I try to exercise a little bit more outside of that as well.

You are four days out right now. At four days out I was not exercising.

At this point I recommend leisurely walking to prevent clots and complications, but nothing more intense. The next couple of months are for healing and getting acclimated with your new sleeve.

I didn't resume formal exercise until three months out. I started with a walk/jog routine. Now I run an average of 30 miles a week, either outdoors or on a gym treadmill. When I want a break from running, I use the stationary bike, stairmill machine, or elliptical trainer at the gym.

Exercise is beneficial for cardiovascular health and weight control. However, it is not a main driver of weight loss as we've all been led to believe over the years. Fat loss occurs with good dietary choices. Cardiovascular health and body recomposition occur with exercise.

I could barely get up out of a chair with out help. I didn't exercise until I was 3 almost 4 weeks. I did walk around the house and the yard but I wasn't one of those ones that walked 5 miles 2 days later. I could barely make I through the store and actually didn't on one trip. I pushed clothes to a corner of a display table and sat down on it and dared someone to say something to me. Lol. Start slow. It's better to start slow then go all out and set your recovery back.

I've been taking short walks 2-3 a day since surgery, May 15th. I felt like I could go longer yesterday, but it was getting dark. I agree with the above, listen to your body. I am not one to be doing 2 miles now. LOL

Yesterday was 5 days post op for me and my first day out. I was on my feet for 5 hours shopping, then I came home and did some meal prep, thrn i met girlfriends for dinner (I had a $6 bowl of chickey Soup broth. Lame. Lol) Last night at bed time & today I felt worse than day 2 post op. I totally overdid it. I can't take pain meds and was in agony all night trying to find a good position for sleep.

Take it slow. It's not worth it.

For the first two weeks I was sleeping, sipping and walking around my house in laps. I had my surgery in December so walking outside was dangerous at times due to the snow/ice. After my two week check up I started walking more, I tried to get in about a mile a day. I started back at the gym 4 weeks post op just light walking.

I'm on day two. I can barely stand up straight. I'm sipping a Protein Shake and hoping not to throw up. I do feel better today. I do laps around my house as it's been pouring here. It still amazes me how different we all are in our recovery.

I wasn't allowed to walk more than a mile at a time for the first four weeks. Wasn't allowed to really workout or touch weights until eight weeks.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
