Day 5 post op - constant bathroom trips

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on Wed 5/17 and ever since then I've had horrible bathroom trips. I feel like every time I get up to move around I make a trip to the bathroom. Is this normal? It's not just diarrhea, but sometimes just mucus. It's become somewhat painful whenever I go because of the spasms.

Am I doing something wrong?

I doubt it's anything wrong. But you should always run questions by your doc. It is possible you are consuming something that no longer agrees with you. Artificial sweetener and milk come to mind as common problem-makers.

What are you consuming?

My first week post op is Clear Liquids only. So it's been Water with Crystal lite pretty much since Friday.
I'm having broth for the first time tonight.
I wonder if it's the crystal lite? Hmmmmm. Thanks!

could be drug related too. If you are taking the nausea or Constipation medicine that might do it. You obviously dont need constipation meds.

I couldn't stand the taste of artificial sweeteners, so drank lots of herbal tea and broth. It can be done :) If you go 24 hours without artificial sweeteners and still have problems, then that's probably not it.

I had that problem the first 2-3 weeks, improved as diet advanced. I was sleeved on March 10, so now about 2 1/2 months post-op.

liquid diet + meds.. personally I wasn't expecting solid crap.

What made it worse for me is that because of the liquid codeine they wanted me having milk of magnesia which made me crap like every 2 hours and was like a fountain of liquid out my ass. Thank god I was soon contacted as a follow up from my case manager and told I don't need to take that stuff anymore.

Even now on normal diet stage I drink like 2-3L of Water a day, my stools are extremely soft.

One thing that's interesting to me is I kinda wonder post-op if I might have acquired some type of lactose intolerance.

Sounds like me. I was sleeved on the 15th. Started the bathroom trips on the 18th, part diarrhea and some solids together. (Sorry if tmi) I too got spasms especially afterwards. It seems to have died down somewhat, but I did have another episode this morning. I am just doing my best to make sure I've got Water in. I've read others who've been through it too, so it can be normal. But your best bet is to call your doc is you're more concerned then I am. Lol. Blessings to you! Hope it goes away soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
