Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

NSV--but also a short stall :(

Recommended Posts

I'll start with the good news! I went into Dress Barn the other day and the store is basically separated by "regular sizes" on the left and "plus sizes" on the right. For the first time in years, I didn't have to stay on the right side! I'm pretty sure I still could have fit into the smaller stuff in the plus sized section, but being able to fit into the "regular sizes" was too darn crazy for me to walk away from!

Bad news is I haven't lost an ounce in the last couple of weeks. I consistently wonder if my calorie intake is too low (between 700-800, I'm 3.5 months post-op) but every time I try to see if I can increase it, I find I simply can't ingest any more food. The only thing I can think of to have more calories in the same volume of intake would be to up the fat content, but my NUT has me scared away from eating over 30 g of that a day. I'm frightened of carbs all on my own, so that never goes over 50 g (some will still say that's too high, I know.) I really should up the exercise a bit, but I doubt that's the main contributing factor--it's not like I've been sitting around doing nothing! Sigh, I wish I had more guidance, since they only seemed to give me any in the liquid and smushie stages. I just hope this snaps soon.

Oh well, at least I have 3 cute new dresses, a cute new shirt, and cute new black skinny jeans! :D

That must feel really good! I was at that calorie goal around that time too. If you are exercising heavily you will need more calories than that.

Congratulations on your weight loss and being able to buy some clothes in the non-plus sizes!

I am definitely one of those people that thinks that 50 grams of carbs a day is too much, but if it is working for you, then good. But if you stall for too long, you might want to change it up a bit and just see if dropping your carbs helps. Also, I know your NUT told you to stay at 30 grams or less on the fat. But just to share my story on that..... I have lost over 80 pounds since my surgery and am continuing to lose every week, and my fat grams are always up around 50 grams a day. In order to get in my calories, which I have now worked up to close to 950 a day, I have to eat higher calorie/higher fat foods... well, one food in particular.... in between my regular meals, I add whole roasted almonds to my diet. It has really helped me get in those extra calories that I needed to make sure the weight loss continues. And the fat, at no more than 50 grams total a day, has not mattered for me one bit.

Also, I was where you are calorie wise until about 5 months. I just couldn't fit in anymore food and I was always coming in around 800 a day. I think at 3.5 months out, there is nothing wrong with 800 a day.

So, maybe play with the carbs, the fat.... going up on calories won't hurt. Sometimes you just have to change things around a bit and play with these things. OH, and also, I get 100 grams or a little more of Protein a day (have from the start). It really works for me, and I know it does for many people.

Again, congratulations on your success... keep it up! :)

Thanks guys, I feel better about the calorie count now! Maybe I will try to sub a few more of the carbs for fat--virtually none of the carbs are coming from starches, some of it is produce, but the biggest offender is dairy :P Some nuts where I might've had cheese or yogurt would take care of that!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
