How to survive post op clear liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

Hello, Im new here but a lurker for months. I had my sleeve surgery on Tuesday, sent home Friday and suppose to stick to a low/no sugar clear liquid diet until 31st.

Im struggling sooo much with it. Preopt was hard but not this hard! I mostly drink crystal light and try to stomach Protein Shakes. But I miss and need variety and texture!

Im trying to keep distracted but I even dream about foods with texture.

How do I survive this? How do/did you?

Thanks♡

Are you having Jello? sugar free popsicles? ice cubes? Those are some solids that I was allowed to have during my Clear Liquids phase :)

I have sugarfree Jello and popsicles but they tend to cause gas, making eating them undesirable.

I distract myself with art and doing business busy work, but my mind always drifts back to food. I should try to work out a tad more, Im just so lethargic since surgery.

I did lick some pb off a spoon like a lollipop and it was magical, but I cant just cheat the system. Im sure my stomach will hate me later.

One thing that helped me was this: KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE!!! Take your time noe to heal. Push the fluyids because it doesn't take long to get dehydrated. Keep doing everything that your group has set before you because they KNOW WHERE IT IS AT!! Everything they say to do is very important. Be very careful don't start cheating here and there. It will get out of hand quickly!! Hang in there it does get better!! Congradulations on getting started on your AMAZING journey. I look frward to following you on this site. Smle

I'm gonna be honest with y'all this is some straight B's I have had to realize this is had I can't even believe I am going through this torture I have a goal I'm gonna reach but I feel like I should of did it with out the surgery because I am in pain and literally dying to eat normal again I like the whole idea of I CANT EAT TOO MUCH but I can at least indulge I mean I want a carrot to a kennel of popcorn and I'm literally having depressed moments not being able to enjoy I cheated already and it has not cause major issues so it has me eyeing for more I know I will still lose weight because no one can survive how I've been eating I pray I get stronger but I see the first 3 weeks the hardest

Had mine on the 15th of May. My plan allowed me to start soft foods one week later (yesterday). I decided to give it a try and I'm not liking how I feel afterwards. So, I'm opting to stick to the liquids for a while longer. I thought just because my doc gave me a plan and I can follow it (which is no problem), that I was ready. No, my body isn't ready. You may find yourself in that category, even if you decided to eat. So, I'm back to liquids, I want to be ready. Not feel gross. Hang in there with the liquids...it's probably a great thing for you as your stomach is healing.

I was on clear liquids for the first week. It wasn't too bad as I didn't really experience any true hunger until about 7 days post op. Savory homemade broths are what kept me satisfied the most.

Well you shouldn't be feeling hungry this early on, so it's probably all mental. (I went through that)

I ignored people and social functions for a few weeks, and turned off the tv during commercials that had to do with food.

During this time i found it easier for me to do ready to drink shakes over the kind i had to mix due to texture, and i ate lots of popsicles and sugar free pudding.< br>

Clear liquid diet ususally isn't for more than a day or 2. And it's typically immediately after surgery when you're still in the hospital so you don't want to eat anyway. You'll be fine. Then you'll get cleared for regular liquids

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
