If any of you could have had the sleeve done in your 20's would you?

I'm not a sleever, but I think this is still relevant.

In my 20s I wasn't emotionally ready yet. I wasn't ready to make the big sacrifice and commit to the program. I wasn't mature enough yet. I had to go through some dieting experiences and have the big 'aha' moments first. I think I could have gotten it done in my 20s had I wanted it bad enough, but I didn't. I wasn't ready for the commitment and the sacrifice.

Yes and no... yes because I'd have loved to be living the lifestyle I have now earlier than this...

No because in my 20s I don't think I would have been emotionally or mentally ready to make these big changes and commitments. I am in a VERY different place now at 31 than at 25.

But if you're ready, you're ready! Don't wait for an arbitrary reason like age. It's the mindset that matters.

I believe you need to do what you are ready for... Everyone's health is relative to their genes and lifestyle. I can't fault someone for getting the surgery in their 20's for health reasons. I know people that have had heart attacks at young ages. In my 20's, I was skinny minny and thought I was huge. I actually wasn't overweight until my mid 30's. My mindset was not ready for surgery until maybe mid 40's. I had to start thinking about myself and what was best for me. I was invinceable - my blood test always come back stellar to every doctors amazement. Reality I wanted to keep it that way- no medical issues.

I turned 26 and I had my surgery a few days later. This was the right time for me. I personally wouldn't have had my surgery any younger. But there is nothing wrong with having surgery at 20 or younger. Just spend plenty of time thinking about your reasons for having surgery, do your research and weigh up all the risks. If it's the right thing for you then you will just know. The younger you are the quicker your body heals and going under anaesthetic becomes less of a risk if you have no pre existing medical conditions so there are some advantages to having this surgery younger. Good luck :)

I'm gonna try not to cry while typing this up.

Would I do it in my 20's? Yes. Would I do it when I was 16? Yes, if they had let me. I'm 42 now. I spent my entire life fat, shy and scared to share my body or life with someone. I wanted the bypass done when I was in my 20's but it never worked out. I was scared or no insurance, etc. I wasted my youth. I am so happy now but the regret I feel is the regret of 20 years in a shell, living like I wanted to die. Now I'm alive, I'm free, but it's hard because I'm in my 40's. It's bittersweet. I feel WONDERFUL, I am on cloud 9 most days. But sometimes i think of all that lost time... Would I do it in my 20's, yes, a 1000xs yes.

Heck yea I'm 26 and tomorrow is my surgery, I've been trying to get this surgery since I was 22 no luck then but finally I'm getting the help I've been asking for. Don't worry about partying and drinking and your social life. That all will always be there, but your good health will not.. You'll heal and look good and you'll be social again.

It was later in life that my weight became a problem for me. It took me 4 years to be ready for surgery...I had to accept that I couldn't maintain weight loss without outside help. I wish I'd done it sooner.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
