Post op expectations from self pay Mexico

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I'm new here and considering the gastric sleeve. I have read a great deal of information on this and I want everyone's opinion on which doctor you liked in Mexico and what do I do about post opp doc visits or do I even need to do this? Where do I get the right Vitamins? Any post op info is helpful. I do not meet my insurance for help paying.

I'm going to Dr. Gerardo Garcia Alvarez at Bariatric Mexico in Cabo. I have 8 people who work with my boyfriend who've all gone to this exact same Dr and hospital in the last year.. they literally refer to it as the Beverly hills of Mexico. I'm really looking forward to being treated so well at such an affordable cost. Their coordinator takes great care of you from the moment you open the conversation, all the way until you are on your flight home. They take care of every single detail!
Good luck to you!!

Is there any treatment you have to have once you get home? Like do you have to followup with a doctor here

I used Dr Ilian with Bariatric Pal. I've been quite happy. They send you home with a big book on VSG, a 10 week menu plan to follow, and have a gal you can ask unlimited questions of via email. I chose to have a video made of my surgery. (The concierge went to Walmart for me to get me a flash drive since I didn't know about this option before I arrived). They also sent me home with my blood test results (albeit in Spanish) and a disc of x-rays and my leak test. I drink a liquid Vitamin from costco (didn't take Vitamins before surgery). I don't have much follow up care of my own choosing. I feel good, have energy, and I'm losing weight. I suppose if this were not the case I'd seek local medical support. I'm 3 months post op.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
