Two years out and I have a whole bunch of questions/concerns

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, hoping you can help me out.

So I'm just over two years post-op. While I have lost a lot of weight, I have plateaued, but I mostly think it is my fault and I'm a little bit worried. For the past 6-7 months I have been eating too much. I haven't necessarily been forcing food down my throat, but I've definitely overate a bit on many of my meals, and I've had more meals in general. I started seeing a personal trainer and he got me tracking my food. I've been eating on average 1800 calories a day and this has kept my weight stagnant, but I still have more to lose. Tracking my food was great for me because I can really see where I went wrong and how to fix it. So here's the problem, 5 days ago I decided to get 100% back on track with a proper post-op diet. But I have noticed I am getting hungry a LOT. My stomach is constantly yelling at me for more food. I started supplementing a small Protein snack in between meals (and eating less on my main meals) to help keep the hunger under control, and it has helped but I am really worried. Have I caused permanent damage to my pouch? Stretched it out and now my stomach won't tolerate less food?

So I'm curious about other people in my situation post-op. Do you guys experience hunger? I don't remember ever experiencing it before I started eating poorly, or if I did certainly not like this. If I messed up my pouch, is it permanent?

Also, after researching this a little bit I have found something called a "pouch reset" diet, is this something you guys would recommend for my situation? I'm really worried that I'm going to be hungry for the rest of my life if I start eating properly again because I stretched my pouch or something -_-.

Thanks

pouch reset is a fad diet and does not shrink your pouch or sleeve. Not recommended; instead, eat Protein first, then vegetables. And make sure you're getting enough protein and Water a day.

1800 cals a day is not much for a guy your height and weight. Do you exercise?

Get a kitchen scale.

3 meals and 1 snack.

4oz Protein + 4oz nonstarchy veg + 2 oz starchy veg at each meal + 1 teaspoon butter or oil on veggies

Snack can be 1-2 oz nuts or seeds.

Walk 3-5 miles a day, weightlifting 2-3 times a week.

I don't think your Protein snack is a problem. There are two phases to gastric bypass surgery. These are the weight loss phase and the maintenance phase. The approach is different between these two phase. I am 4 years post op RNY gastric bypass. This describes the approach that I am using in the Maintenance phase. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
