I'm a little over 3 months out from VSG and am experiencing quite a bit of Hair loss. I'd been expecting this and am consistently meeting my Protein goals, taking Biotin along with my Vitamins, etc but it's still distressing to see. I was due to get another perm right around the time of my surgery but held off thinking the hair loss might not be so bad if I gave my hair a break from the chemicals. Since the hair loss has happened regardless, I'm wondering if getting it re-permed now would actually end up helping a bit with volume to fill in the thin spots. Has anyone had experience with perms during the 3-8+ month window after surgery when hair loss is heaviest? I don't want to make things worse but am curious to hear about anyone else who has experience with this. Thanks!

The Hair loss is the normal shedding we all experience regardless of surgery. The problem is the hair isn't growing back because the body is using the limited nutrition we are feeding it to take care of more important things. My stylist has discouraged me from doing anything that might cause further distress to my hair follicles. I do have my roots done to hide the grey which helps make my hair look less thin but no highlights or perming.

I'm 3.5 months post-op and like you, am experiencing major Hair loss (or so it feels like). I put my hair up in rollers today and lost more hair taking the rollers out than I have all week! I've already noticed my hairline is quite thin at the temples.

I can't help you with your question since I'm at the same stage as you, but I'm really interested to hear what others have to say. (Oh, and I ran out of Biotin this morning. Great timing :( )

Im wearing dreds & im 6.5 mos out...no major hairloss (yet). Besides the Biotin i think its the healthy fat intake (un-saturated's) & the past month I've been hitting the flaxseed oil & fish oil w/borage capsuels. Also been using cocoa & shea butters on hair & castor oil. Our body needs some healthy oils inside & out....and hella hella hella water!

.....did i mention Water?

Ugh I haven't even had surgery yet and my hair is falling out. I stopped eating meat about 1.5 years ago and my hair is falling out terrible. I've even lost most of my eyebrows. So, I'm super worried about this with my upcoming surgery. Hopefully my appt with the nutritionist will point me in the right direction. If I learn anything that hasn't been mentioned here I will repost.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
