It's complicated, I guess. I'm four weeks out, and I don't feel regret about the operation - I'm sure it'll add years to my life - but I often miss being able to eat "normally". Like, leftover pizza slice in the fridge, I look at it, and I wish I could have it. When eating with friends, they've got plates full of food, and I've got like... an eighth to a quarter. This stuff eases up over time, I know, but the thought that I'll never be able to eat a whole sandwich again makes me a bit sad.

I'm feeling this way too. I'm not even a week out, but I really miss the ability to just eat a tasty piece of pizza. Or have a migas taco. The cravings and desire were not cut out with the surgery. It makes me sad to think I'll forever have to do things in a different way. Or that I'll be the difficult one when it comes to choosing where to go out to eat. Or yeah, just not being able to have a sandwich... it's heartbreaking. I hope it gets easier when the weight drops, but IDK.

Yeah, I go back and forth with this. I had surgery 5/22 and I find myself feeling hunger and the desire to eat something warm and to chew. I don't even know how I would've prepared for this phase beforehand. Im just trusting in those before me that eventually, when we can eat, it gets better. I have made food my "go to" for everything. I know I can taste or have a few bites of favorites once in a while (if I choose) eventually. So I'm not going to focus on being sad about not eating again. I know I can. Even though I knew in my head what this would entail I had no idea what it would actually feel like. It's a huge change. I'm using this phase to work on changing my attitude with food. From preop to now, none of this is "easy" but we can and are doing it.

You have a positive attitude, and that is great. My dad used to always tell me attitude was everything when faced with trials. We can choose to focus on the negatives and wallow in self pity or we can look for the positive side and what we are learning while going through them.

It isn't always easy to stay positive, but I believe it absolutely helps us. We must change our relationship with food and adopt healthy sustainable eating habits. This emotional upheaval is part of the process most of us will go through. We can choose to keep our eye on the prize or keep looking back and missing our unhealthy lifestyles. I am doing my best to stay on the positive side of the equation.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
