Ny 9 Posted May 18, 2017 I'm just starting on my pre op liquid diet and I know I'm supposed to have at least 65grams of Protein but I don't know which one to get. I know it can't have any sugar or whey protein in it. This is what a handout my surgeon gave me. I'm lost , any suggestions? 1 Barnv81 reacted to this
VSG_Man_Vs_Food 55 Posted May 18, 2017 My doctor recommends Premier Protein shakes, they have 30 grams of Protein and are about 160 calories. They taste pretty good.HW: 329 lbSW: TBDCW: 313 lbVSG, Dr. Jawad, Orlando, FL
kerryd.away 8 Posted May 18, 2017 I used GNC lean shakes, 27 grams of Protein 4g sugar & 170 cals. Not sure you're going to find too many shakes with zero sugar. My nutritionist said to keep it under 5. Good luck!
croutster 20 Posted May 18, 2017 Look into Unjury Protein. It is 100 calories per scoop with only 3 grams of sugar. Use skim milk and the total shake is 180 calories. Tastes great. 1 Here_I_Go_Again reacted to this
Newme17 3,444 Posted May 18, 2017 Go plant based, for no whey. That's what I used during pre-op phases. VegaOne nutritional shake is pretty good. Expensive but good. I was told to switch to whey for post op. Can't remember the science behind it, but once cleared for regular foods, if I do Protein Shakes, I'm going back to VegaOne. Currently I'm doing Premier Protein and those GNC lean shakes are pretty good too, especially, in my opinion, the snickerdoodle and pumpkin spice
Berry78 4,261 Posted May 18, 2017 Whey Protein is complete and easily digestible. If you need to avoid it, you're looking for vegan friendly protein powders. I haven't tried any myself.
James Marusek 5,244 Posted May 18, 2017 I used Muscle Milk Light Protein Powder blended with Water and I added a half a banana to make it more palatable. Sometimes you can buy small samples of the Protein powders to try them out. There are many flavors and you will find that some taste better than others. Also your taste buds may change after surgery so be willing to experiment.
Okie75 35 Posted May 18, 2017 (edited) I just started 2 week liquid diet yesterday. I like the Premier Protein drinks. Some other ideas that I like is 1 cup sugar free Jello, or sugar free popcicle. broth is also another option. Things like this keep me at the 500 calorie and 50 grams or less carbs and at least 65+ grams of Protein a day. Although every Doctor requires different pre-op diets, I've attached some of my print-outs, maybe that will help give you some ideas. gjb2017 71 Posted May 18, 2017 Premier Protein's the tops. Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app
biginjapan 647 Posted May 18, 2017 Syntrax and Unjury Protein powders are 100 calories, and 0 carb, 0 fat, and 0 sugar and 23 grams of protein. BUT...they are whey Proteins. You'll really have to look at vegetarian options if you can't have whey.

Two scoops Garden of life and two scoops of Orgain & one pack of costco frozen berry smoothie mix with blueberries raspberries and strawberries. That combined makes two perfect shakes within the guidelines. Over 30 grams of protein & less than 15 grams of carbs about 200 calories. powders are available at most grocery stores & Costco has Orgain. Been on this for two weeks now with one meal & 3-4 shakes per day. Tommorow I go to 4 shakes per day & no food until surgery on May 30th. Then post-op diet begins. Oh joy! catwoman7 11,220 Posted May 18, 2017 that's odd you can't have whey. Are you allergic to it, maybe? Most people drink whey isolate Protein Shakes the first few weeks or months.
Juni7578 4 Posted May 31, 2017 (edited) The only one I found palatable was Plnt Protein. Luckily we could have Whey. Most of the suggestions in here have Whey. Edited May 31, 2017 by Juni7578
