Using chiropractor for medically supervised weight loss?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone used a chiropractor for medically supervised weight loss?

I like mine better than my Pcp and already go once a month. They offer nutritional counseling, but they don't typically do a weigh in. I'm sure they could though.

Anyone used this to meet the insurance requirements? (BCBS Federal). The book doesn't specify, it just says medically supervised.

I would recommend you call your plan and ask them. It's most common to go through nutrition counseling by a credentialed professional, so if you don't like your PCP, maybe see if you can follow with a NUT that you like. If your plan allows medically supervised weight loss from a chiropractor, make sure they tell you that directly. I wouldn't recommend settling with "it shouldn't be a problem" type of answers.

I've never heard of doing this & would be very surprised if an insurance company approved it. Good luck!

I know someone who did a weight loss plan through her chiro but not weigh in for WLS.
I second the suggestion of getting it in writing.
I saw a PA for my check-ins.

Call the insurance. I just got turned down because my 5 month supervised weight loss was just barely outside the 2 year window. FYI though they said it was a 6 month program but you didn't necessarily have to go every single month for mg plan. Also it had to be a doctor and not a NP. Just heads up.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
