As soon as I healed enough to take pills instead of chewables, I went to GNC and switched out some of the Vitamins.< br />

How far along were you before getting the ok to take pills? I have the bariatric capsules that I was taking prior to surgery. My nutritionist informed me that I would no longer be able to take them. So I purchased these God awful chewables. However, the E.R. doctor prescribed an antibiotic which is a capsule for my kidney infection and I took them with no problem, but my nutritionist still says I can't go back to my bariatric capsule vitamins.

I ordered PatchMD vitamin patches to use after surgery. My surgery is June 1 and I'm terrified after reading all of this feedback! As for Protein, my nutritionist said it is based on height. As a 5'6 female, my goal is about 89 grams a day. It is easy to get on the pre-op diet because I'm doing 2 Protein Shakes a day, as well as adding a tablespoon of unflavored Protein Powder (31g) to 16 of Crystal Light.

I like a couple different Protein Shakes. Premier Protein, 30G per bottle, is the best tasting and easiest to buy. I get them from Wal-Mart. I have also ordered Protein mixes from Bariatric Pal and like all of the ones I've tried. I feel like I'm getting a milkshake when I make them at home.

As far as Multi-Vitamin, I use the Bariatric pal Multi-Vitamin patch. I love it!!!! no chewing anything. The dr's office recommended them so I know they work.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
