Help! 10 Days out and still have trouble drinking

Recommended Posts

Is it normal to feel my drink go down??? I had the sleeve on May 8th and also a hernia repair so not sure if it's the sleeve or repair I had done.

I'm so tired of not being able to drink without it coming up and having to burp. More discomfort than pain.

Has anyone else had this issue and will it ever go away????

Yes, I have. As I'm approaching my month post-op, I had several difficulties with nausea and difficultly with drinking..in fact I got dehydrated as a result. Trust me!!! You don't want that. Just force yourself to start with sipping on maybe about 8 ozs an hour. It helped me. I would pour 8 ozs. cup and sip off of it throughout that hour. I was able to overcome it then. It worked for me.

I too had the sleeve and a hernia repair. I had to get daily IV fluids for about 3 weeks. I'm better now at 6 weeks and can get in about 50 ounces of fluids a day. I had to start drinking warm Decaf tea for a bit. I also found this sugar free caffeine free chai vanilla tea that I lived on for about a week...it was yummy so I was eager to drink.

Now I carry a 32 ounce water bottle with me that always has lime and cucumber sclices in it...very refreshing. Let me know how things go for you in the next few days. If you aren't able to drink more, definitely call your doctor.

It is normal to feel everything go down at first, but you will get used to it. Try changing the temperature of what you're drinking to see if that helps. Before surgery, I loved ice cold Water - now I can't drink anything too cold or it feels like lead in my stomach. Take small sips slowly (easier said than done, I know). It will get better and easier, I promise.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
