2 weeks post op. No appetite.

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 weeks post op tomorrow. Recovery going really well so far however I have no appetite or desire to eat/drink anything. I am on puréed foods already at my surgeons request and they go down well as long as they are not too thick. I'm getting hardly any calories a day as I cannot have too much puréed food before I'm full. I feel so weak as a result of this. Any little thing exhausts me. Does this get better over time? Will my energy and my appetite return? Feeling a bit deflated even though I can see I've lost weight already :( I'm really worrying this is the way it'll be from now on.

It will get better as your stomach heals. But it is really important that you are meeting your Protein and Water goals. This will help speed the healing process. It isn't about hunger; it is about giving your body the fuel that it needs. How many grams of protein are you getting in per day? How about water?

I initially too had the same problems. I stuck to liquids, primarily Protein Shakes, and Soup, almost until week 4 . I didn't have ANY energy until after 6 weeks. Now, I have a ton of energy and eating 2.5 oz at a time. It takes months to heal, so don't force anything down. Just concentrate on your Protein, liquid if it needs to be, and Water. sugar free popsicles really helped me get my water in.

Thank you for your replies. I've been so worried. It's good to know that this will get better. I can drink about 1-1.5 litres of Water a day at a push. Protein i'm struggling with but I got some Protein Powder today which is around 23g per serving so I'm going to try to drink 2-3 of those a day. I stop eating/drinking when I feel full but that feeling of fullness lasts for hours. Is that normal? I've been making my own sugar free ice lollies (that's what we call popsicles in the UK) and I tolerate them really well.

Yes, it is totally normal. Your stomach is probably still swollen and it just takes time to heal. It's hard for us to comprehend because the outside is healed so therefore the inside must be. It takes months for the stomach to heal. I literally sipped the entire day to get down 2 Protein Shakes and about 1 litre of Water. Also, don't hesitate to contact your surgeon if you are seriously worried about something.

I have not had a B12 Vitamin yet as i'm having b12 vitamin injection every 3 months. Maybe I should get some to have until till my first b12 injection.

I too experienced the same as you. However, I didn't want to eat or drink and ended up dehydrating myself with severe nauseous. That wasn't a pleasant feeling at all. Eventually, I pushed myself to drink more liquids and to reignite my weight loss. I feel much better as I approach my one month post-op. I've just started exercising. I didn't see the light at the end of the tunnel at first, now I'm motivated to see the end results. I'm trying to get to a target weight by this upcoming July. I'm definitely loving the compliments.

@Newme17 Thank you for taking the time to post that. I'm kinda relieved. I posted something similar on a different forum and no one responded so I thought it was just me. @BlkSpyce I'm gonna keep drinking, even if it's Water. Can't wait to start exercising again. I think being off work I have too much time on my hands and I'm over thinking everything.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
