One of the reasons I'm really eager to have weight-loss surgery is because I want to travel! It's embarrassing to ask the flight attendant for the seat belt extender, and to have to keep pulling my CPAP machine out of my carry-on bag at the security checkpoint. I don't like getting winded as I walk around, and I especially don't like being unable to do certain things because of physical limitations.

Two thoughts are going through my mind:

  1. Am I going to regret the surgery because I won't be able to enjoy food when I travel?
  2. How will I be able to make good food choices when I'm eating out three times a day?

Anyone else grappling with these issues?

I travel all of the time for work. I take Protein Shakes with me in my checked luggage and then rely on meat and green vegetables when I eat out on these trips. I don't rely on Protein shakes at all on a daily basis, so having to on work trips is my only regret, but it is a necessity. Eating and drinking on these work trips was part of my obesity problem, so I can't say that I miss that. I was so tired of being fat and dealing with those travel issues of which you spoke (seat belts, walking through the airport, dragging a suitcase around, trying to look nice and professional at 400 pounds). These 200 pounds (and counting!) I have lost is worth so much more to me than the travel food and drink.

The nice thing about the sleeve (or so my surgeon says!) is that after a certain amount of time, you can still enjoy most foods, but in much smaller quantity. (I'm due to have the sleeve 6/2!)

Eating out in general is a concern. Eating Breakfast at a hotel...well since I can't stand eggs I don't plan on ever really eating their breakfast again. Those lounges (including Alaska Airlines Board Room) and breakfast bar are major carb sources for me. pancake machines, Bagels, Cereal, juice...yum! I figure I'll need to travel with some Protein powders to make my own shakes.< br>

Honestly, at 6 months out, I do eat out a lot. I can pretty much always find something on the menu that's not too terrible: just look for high Protein, low carb. Usually I go for an appetizer, which I rarely finish. I have no regrets about the surgery. It doesn't limit my ability to do all the things I used to love doing. It doesn't even, really, prevent me from tasting things that I always loved. I just can't overindulge the way I used to.

I'm a big traveler, and my highest point was 308. I'm now 234 less than 4 months PoP.

I find that traveling is definitely easier, I snore no more...I lately before my surgery never needed the seat belt extender because they do make seat belts bigger these days... :-)

You'll love it, go for itm

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
