Anyone here practice a ketogenic way of eating after having the gastric sleeve surgery? Just wondering if you have and how it's going? I tried it for a few months and cannot believe how great I felt but I am a little afraid it may affect me differently since I'm over a year out of the sleeve surgery. Just looking for some feedback. Thank you.

I have followed low carb/high protein/high healthy fat way of eating since six months before my surgery in September 2016. I kept this way of eating through my food stages immediately post-op as well. I eat 20 grams of carbs or less per day. I haven't noticed any differences in the way I feel or the way it affects me as I get further out.

I have since about 6 months post-op. I eat more stuff that is not strict Keto, but low carb a couple days a week, but on a daily basis, I am Keto.

I low carbed for about 6 years before surgery to control my diabetes without insulin, so this isn't a new thing to me. I don't really associate with a post-op surgery life, but with being healthy and my body running at optimal levels.

Combining Keto with WLS though, is so easy and delicious it seems like cheating

If I followed a normal bariatric post-op diet. I am pretty sure I would have bottomed out in the 240-250 range.

Just make sure you don't follow it blindly. Use a calculator to set your Macros and weight/measure all your food and track it.

I've been doing Keto for the last couple of months. Up until this week I wasn't sure if my revision to a sleeve would pan out so I needed to really dig in and better my lifestyle. I love it, and plan on keeping it up once I'm sleeved (but I think it'll be slightly easier) my biggest hurdle as it is, is finding lapband friendly AND keto friendly foods. But I'm down 24 lbs so far. I also add the keto OS drinks. That adds ketones to your body and helps a TON

I am doing Keto and keeping my macros in line with what the calculator spit out for my stats. I find that it really helps in minimizing cravings for sugar and starches. I don't love cooking, but this week I made a spinach and ricotta bake that was very tasty! http://queenketo.com/low-carb-spinach-ricotta-bake/

I have a question: do those doing Keto take Medium-chain triglycerides (MCT)? If so, how much and in what form? Do you find that it helps? I bought some in pill form (big gel caps) and am wondering how many to take. The bottle says you can take three up to five times a day but to start at a low dose. I'm currently taking two a day.

If it's helping you, what have you noticed? Also, is it better to take it at a certain time of day? Thanks!

I have MCT and done the bulletproof coffee- I can't say unnoticed too much difference in energy or weightloss... I use the Keto strips to stay in ketosis. The only thing I would say is remember it is an oil/fat and to think about the calories of a TBS spoon of oil- also too much MCT and you will be heading to the potty [emoji4]

@resitton Thanks for your reply. I read about bad potty responses so am keeping to a low dose for now. I hadn't thought through the calories of MCT so will keep that in mind. I'm thinking of trying the bulletproof coffee. [emoji3]

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
