Tight Will I loosen Up

Recommended Posts

I have a 4cc band. I had a fill from 2cc to 3cc yesterday morning. It is now a day and a half later and I am freakin a little. I feel that tight knot like pressure in my throat at times. I can get any kind of liquids down without a problem. So I tried some scrambled eggs this morning and was able to only get a few bites in and then I think I threw up two times with pain in throat afterward. Not having learned my lesson I tried a soft piece of fish this afternoon and again I threw up four times. Now I am freakin and wandering if I am too tight. I am now only doing liquids. I would be a little calmer if I could get some form of soft food in and keep it there. How long should I wait until I decide that I am for sure too tight and have an unfill. I so much want to stay at this fill level because at 2cc I could eat more than I should have been able to and was hungry often. Any advice would be great!!

I haven't been filled to the point where I can't keep anything down but from what my Dr has told me and I've read...You should be able to keep things down at least! Especially since you've only been trying soft foods. Personally I would call my Dr's office and see what they think. If anything they will have you come in and unfill you a bit, that's gotta be better then getting sick everytime you try to eat!!

Good Luck!

I agree with strawberrygrl... definately call your surgeon/dr and make sure... You wouldn't want to hurt your band:) good luck and let us know if your okay

I was always told to be on liquids for 24 hours and then progress to mushies... like applesauce, yogurt, cottage cheese. Maybe you are starting out with too solid of a food and it is still too swollen to tolerate that?

What are your doctors food instructions after a fill? I would call. Its better to have to get a small unfil and work your way up to restriction than to be so restricted you cant get any food in.

Sounds like you are too tight. I asked my doctor the question last week when I got my fill. He said there are too types of tighten. 1 is tight to liquids, the other is tight to solids. If you are tight to solids then move back to soft. If soft doesn't go down or keep down then you are too tight. You may want to give it a couple days but from the sound of it, you are too tight!

Thanks everyone for your helpful advice. I decided I was too tight and I had a little unfil of .25cc so now I am at 2.75cc. I am now doing great, and can keep anything down as long as I follow the bandster rules of chewing well and no liquids during meals. Now I get full on a very small amount versus before so I am at my "sweet spot" and loving it. I hope this is the last fill I will need for a while. I will be 12 weeks post-op on saturday and I have lost 25 pounds so far so I am very happy and hope to continue on this track.

I have also heard (found) that if PB-ing is involved, I need to stay on liquids even a little longer to allow for healing, but a call to the Dr's office is always a great idea.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
