I am approved for gastric sleeve by both Dr. Corvala and Dr. Illan. I'm having trouble deciding between the two and looking for positives and negatives for both surgeons. The decision to move forward with this surgery has been a long process and I'm looking for a team that can offer support, as I'm nervous about traveling to Tijuana for surgery.

I don't know anything about Dr. C. I did have surgery with Dr. Illan and I have nothing but positive things to say. Not only was he great, all the hospital staff and valets were awesome. I have 4 other co-workers that are former patients and we have all had great results and no complications

Out of all of my OCD research on VSG surgery in MX, I went with Dr Illan. My surgery date is on May 25th and I feel confident in my decision about him and his team. As my sister and I are both being sleeved by him!
I have contacted several previous patients, googled him (skip to page 3), & read a different bariatric website as well.
Everything that I have experienced so far has been nothing short of amazing.
Yes, traveling is exhausting, even for work. Surgery sucks, even if it's for a baby. However, the hospital stay is longer with Dr Illan's group (than anything I have read in the US) & two additional days in a hotel, for a total of four days! That's some patient care, if you ask me (I have a master's in healthcare)!

I had my sleeve done with Dr Illan on April 21st. Everything was very well organised. The people were great, start to finish. I really enjoyed my stay at the hospital! They checked on me around the clock...every hour or two. I felt well taken care of. The surgery itself was over without any problems and everything happened so fast I didn't have much time to worry, which I liked.
My husband had a good time with the valets and he met some other "companion husbands" to go eat with.
I am 25 lbs down from my starting weight of 250...which I am happy with. Everything has healed up nicely and I am moving along on my diet plan well. No problems and I am very happy with my choice.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
