Girlfriend is having major numbness

Recommended Posts

So my Girlfriend recently went to the Hospital yesterday due to some slight numbness she was having, They told her there was nothing wrong with her Heart or Brain (As they scanned both). However now she's having a loss of sensation where the numbness was and now there is pain in her stomach (She said it's at least a 6 or 7 on a 1-10 pain scale with 10 being the highest). She also says it isn't gas related as she's having no issues there. She says the numbness has spread/grown severely, it started in her left thigh and has spread everywhere except for her toes, the top of her feet, her head, face, neck, shoulders, arms and hands. We're not entirely sure what this is, but the doctors said it was "Paresthesias" but this sounds FAR more severe than this. She had the sleeve back in december.

If she isn't at the hospital, you need to take her back. They need to keep looking for a cause. My daughter developed a mild case of paresthesia as a drug reaction. It was a diuretic that could disrupt her electrolytes. She was fine after getting off the drug.

ER, now if she's home.

That happened with me in my arms and thigh and I had a ruptured disc and had to have emergency surgery

Vitamin B1 deficiency (a.k.a. thiamine) can result in numbness, paresthesias, and neurological symptoms. Many gastric sleeve patients develop this deficiency. I know I did.

I cannot diagnose over the world wide web, but this is just some food for thought.

I also have sciatic issues in my legs from surgery, but this sounds different. I would not mess around if it is growing like you say. I'd highly recommend another ER visit.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
