Filled Up! 8 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

I am 8 weeks post op and oh my gosh....can only eat 2 or 3 bites and I am filled to the brim! Like eating a huge thanksgiving dinner! Funny (strange) thing is two weeks ago I could eat 1/4 cup 3x daily plus two Protein Shakes. Could never do that now!! Going to try shake for Breakfast and one for lunch so maybe at night I can have more than 2 bites. Anyone out there in bariatric-land experience this??

Of course. That is the great reason we had surgery. I only wish I had the restriction now. It is like dieting all over again, even though our diet is healthy, the weight stops coming off and it is so frustrating. Enjoy the now!

Be sure to mention this to your team. Not saying there is a problem, but increased restriction can sometimes mean a stricture is getting started. If it's only been a day or two, you don't have to rush to the phone. But if the increased restriction continues its worth checking out, particularly if it impacts your ability to drink.

I am 7 weeks out, and for almost a week and a half now my ability to eat has taken a nosedive. Before, I was eating the suggested potion sizes. Now, I can barely eat a few bites before feeling like I ate a horse. I am following all of my surgeons rules about liquids, too.
I hope to speak with a nurse tomorrow. This stinks [emoji30]

If a lot of people experience this between 6 and 8 weeks, it might be a natural progression of the healing sleeve.

I'm 8 weeks out today, and I 've only experienced decreasing restriction. Sure, a chunk of solid meat is super filling, but soft foods continue being easy. I ate a full 4oz of tuna salad for dinner tonight.

My experience early on was I had to eat solid food all the time or my sleeve would swell more and restrict. So once I started on food all my meals were food not Protein Shakes. I would have a Protein Shake in between if running low on Protein but that was it.

My experience is still, if I don't eat protein (I have been sick a few times not WLS related) and just have fluids because I don't feel like cooking or eating. My restriction is tight a drum. My sleeve has a use it or lose it attitude.

Also 2 bites is a useless metric. How many ounces or grams is that?

No impact on ability to drink. Fine in that department. Just seems I get filled up a lot quicker than I used to get.

Lol....FYI...2 bites was a descriptive generalization. Not meant to be a standard of weight . Lol. Thanks for your comment and experience though. That's what we are all here for!! [emoji4]

Wow... so you went from being able to eat "a lot" to eating very little? I kinda hope that happens to me, too. I am 4 weeks po, and I feel like I can eat a lot...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
