Thinking I ate something I shouldn't have.

Recommended Posts

I ate an ounce of roast beef that was soft and moist. However now my stomach kinda hurts and I get sharp stabby pains. I wonder if it's gas pains or something wrong. Oh and I'm 4 weeks and 3 days post op.

I'm not a medical professional or anything like that, but are you sure you should be having beef at all? In the guidebook from the Bariatric Centre of the Rockies, they describe the diet progression as being in the soft food stage at this point (though you might have a different surgeon, so your mileage may vary). And in the section where they talk about Proteins you can and cannot have during the soft food stage, in the column marked "Foods to avoid at soft stage" they wrote "ALL BEEF, PORK, AND VEAL"... and yes, they wrote it in all caps.

Maybe you should phone your surgeon's office and ask about it?

My book from my surgeon says lean soft moist meats. Then it says fish, poultry or pork. I assumed that moist fork cut roast beef would be ok. When I call my surgeon there is a vm and you leave a message and you don't hear back till the next business day.

That doesn't sound right. Every doctor I see, whether it's my GP, my podiatrist or my endocrinologist always has someone on call in the event of something like this.

I was out of the hospital on Saturday and called on Sunday about the pain pump I came home with and left a vm and they didn't call me back. I called them again at 8am Monday morning.

Yeah, I would be pissed if my surgeon's office didn't have someone on call... especially since they make it very clear that if you have to go to the ER, they want you to go to Poudre Valley Hospital or at least have the ER docs contact PVH if you have to go to another ER.

To illustrate how irritating that is, the following hospitals are closer to me than PVH:

  • Longmont United Hospital
  • UCHealth Long's Peak Hospital
  • Boulder Community Hospital (both the main campus and the Foothills campus)
  • Medical Centre of the Rockies
  • Exempla St. Joseph
  • UCHealth Broomfield Hospital
  • North Metro Medical Centre
  • Banner McKee Hospital

Mine didn't specify where to go. However she has privileges in 4 different hospitals and one is closer than the one I actually had surgery at.

Medical care in the US sure sucks sometimes.

Yeah, France definitely is better. In fact, I know the hospital in the last town I was living definitely does bariatric surgery (or, as we French call it, chirurgie bariatrique).

My book for soft solids say lean, shaved deli meats. Perhaps you ate too much? Everybody is different. Maybe you weren't ready? When I was bumped up to soft solids I was told to go home and have a scrambled egg with a little cheese grated in. I got so sick that night, I was sure something was wrong. And I found out that the diet foods that have artificial sweetners don't agree with me either. I was told if something doesn't agree, put it away for a month or two and then try it again.

I handled a scrambled egg well as well as tuna and chicken salad. I've has refried Beans and did good with that too. I think I'm going back to Soups for a while.

Real roast beef is too tough for a fresh sleeve, eating stuff like that makes your sleeve work over time and it can twist. Google twisted sleeve. That is one of those complications that does show up until later on, but your actions now can create complications later on.

Post-op diet is a prescription to prevent complications, this is a serious diet, not a time to experiment, you have the rest of your life for that, control yourself for 3 to 6 months. Your life is worth it.

Idk but they are, would be easier if everyone's was the same.

Trust me! I won't be. I intend on going back to Soups and scrambled eggs. This has spooked me!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
