sc09 95 Posted May 15, 2017 I ate an ounce of roast beef that was soft and moist. However now my stomach kinda hurts and I get sharp stabby pains. I wonder if it's gas pains or something wrong. Oh and I'm 4 weeks and 3 days post op.
Véronique 238 Posted May 15, 2017 I'm not a medical professional or anything like that, but are you sure you should be having beef at all? In the guidebook from the Bariatric Centre of the Rockies, they describe the diet progression as being in the soft food stage at this point (though you might have a different surgeon, so your mileage may vary). And in the section where they talk about Proteins you can and cannot have during the soft food stage, in the column marked "Foods to avoid at soft stage" they wrote "ALL BEEF, PORK, AND VEAL"... and yes, they wrote it in all caps. Maybe you should phone your surgeon's office and ask about it?

I assumed that moist fork cut roast beef would be ok. When I call my surgeon there is a vm and you leave a message and you don't hear back till the next business day. Every doctor I see, whether it's my GP, my podiatrist or my endocrinologist always has someone on call in the event of something like this.

Yeah, I would be pissed if my surgeon's office didn't have someone on call... especially since they make it very clear that if you have to go to the ER, they want you to go to Poudre Valley Hospital or at least have the ER docs contact PVH if you have to go to another ER. To illustrate how irritating that is, the following hospitals are closer to me than PVH: Longmont United Hospital UCHealth Long's Peak Hospital Boulder Community Hospital (both the main campus and the Foothills campus) Medical Centre of the Rockies Exempla St. Joseph UCHealth Broomfield Hospital North Metro Medical Centre Banner McKee Hospital Edited May 15, 2017 by Véronique

However she has privileges in 4 different hospitals and one is closer than the one I actually had surgery at.

In fact, I know the hospital in the last town I was living definitely does bariatric surgery (or, as we French call it, chirurgie bariatrique).
KJencius 21 Posted May 15, 2017 My book for soft solids say lean, shaved deli meats. Perhaps you ate too much? Everybody is different. Maybe you weren't ready? When I was bumped up to soft solids I was told to go home and have a scrambled egg with a little cheese grated in. I got so sick that night, I was sure something was wrong. And I found out that the diet foods that have artificial sweetners don't agree with me either. I was told if something doesn't agree, put it away for a month or two and then try it again. OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted May 15, 2017 Real roast beef is too tough for a fresh sleeve, eating stuff like that makes your sleeve work over time and it can twist. Google twisted sleeve. That is one of those complications that does show up until later on, but your actions now can create complications later on. Post-op diet is a prescription to prevent complications, this is a serious diet, not a time to experiment, you have the rest of your life for that, control yourself for 3 to 6 months. Your life is worth it. 3 Véronique, sc09 and Newsgirl361 reacted to this
