Surgery and After Surgery

Recommended Posts

Okay this may seem crazy since my doctor has given me an idea but how long were you in the hospital? I have to have someone pick up my children from school and take care of them until I get home Since my DH will be with me. I know this is outpatient unless complications which I don't expect. I would just like to have an actual idea on how long I will be at the hospital from check in time til I leave to come home. I'm very anal when it comes to schedules. Thanks for any input.

I got there at 0500 on thursday, and after 4 hrs in the operating room, they decided to keep me till 1 pm the next day. Its not real possible to plan on the exact time you will be there. Mine was supposed to be a 45 min surgery, but things happen. Sorry if this didnt help, but just wanted to let you know its not easy to plan on stuff....Dave

There is NO WAY to predict, I'm sorry! You can get an average, but even that is not accurate at all.

Mine was an overnight stay. I was out by 1pm, but the woman next to me wasn't close to leaving, her surgery was the same time as mine. Depends on how long it takes the nurses to get your discharge orders processed after the surgeon actually writes them. Everyone wants out of there, so they process them in the order received. How long it takes Radiology to get you in for your swallow test, how long it takes to have it read, how long it takes YOU to wake up from anesthesia. How well your pain is under control. Can you pee on your own, can you drink and keep things down?

Way too many factors to predict, sorry.

But I wish you the very best of luck, and :welcomeB: to LBT!

My doctor told me to plan on staying overnight, but that I might not have to.

O2B,

I was banded at the clinic in Hurst by Dr Smith. My surgery was scheduled at 8am. I was told to be there NO LATER than 7am. I was out of the OR at 9am, awake and sitting up by 9:30, had my barium fluoro at 10am, got dressed and walked out the door at 10:30. They're very efficient and pleasant. Both of the pre-op/post-op nurses have been banded, as has Dr Smith.
