DFW Area Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I'm glad I found this thread again - I'm in Keller and would love some local support as well.

Just a quick update on myself - I was banded about a year ago (Oct 07) - I have lost 65 lbs in the past 11 months. I had to be completely unfilled this past Friday due to my pouch stretching a bit. I hope to be refilled in 1 month. I hope everything is ok with my band because I really do love it. My band has helped me lose those 65 lbs, but we're not through yet!

Do ya'll ever meet for coffee, or anything like that?

It would be fun to meet everyone in person :)

Hi Hillary! I am trying to meet more bandsters my age (I'm 25) and close to me! I live in Lewisville, TX and I was going to support groups, but I didn't have anything in common with most of the women there (over 40, married and/or with children and grandchildren) I would love to meet up with other bandsters my age for happy hour, movie night, just fun social activities where we have more in common than just our band! Let me know if that is something you might be interested in!

Hey Yankee and Sooner and anyone else in the N. DFW area! I work in Lewisville and live in Roanoke. I'm looking for a group as well... I went to a couple and it was awful, the "facilitator" just talked at us for an hour and a half! I'm going to one in Grapevine tomorrow at Baylor, but I'm not sure if it's just for Baylor patients or not...

I'm serious about getting together if everyone in the area wants to meet! We could meet at Starbucks and chat (they have some of the best couches!)... what's everyone's thoughts? If we did it in Lewisville or maybe Southlake or Grapevine, who would be able to come?

I had surgery Dec 1 2008 with Dr David Kim (at North Hills Hosp in NRH). I've had my follow up appointment with his PA, but didn't ask any of my questions (duh me), so I know nothing of his bandster's support groups (allegedly there is one meeting every week or month?) - does anyone know of these support groups?

Thanks!

Hello neighbors one and all! I live in Terrell and work in Plano right now. My journey had stalled for about a year..maintained..I actually had gotten "happy" with my size but decided that still didn't put me at goal and because of the history of cancer in my family, goal is important! I just got a fill two weeks ago and now I am down another 11 lbs...THE BAND IS WONDERFUL!

Nice to find this thread!

I had my surgery done January 13, 2009 by Dr. Rivas at UT Southwestern. So far I have lost 20 pounds. Had to stay overnight (insurance thing) but that was okay. I go back for my first post op on the 9th so I am basically on liquids and very soft foods until then. I hope to get my first fill sometime soon after that.

Hi everyone! I live in Lewisville and I was banded on 12/30/2008 by Dr. Jayaseelan at the Prestonwood Surgery Center in Plano. I went through TLC Edge in Plano for my surgery. The staff is wonderful. Pretty much everyone working are lap band patients. One woman that was totally calming for me when things were rough, Cynthia, had the surgery when it was in FDA trials in the US. I had my first fill on 02/8/2009 at 2cc and have lost around 50 pounds so far. Good luck to everyone!

Hello everyone,

I just joined the forum and made an appointment for my initial evaluation with the Surgery Center of Richardson (true results). I am hoping to have my surgery with Dr. Benavides.

I am 29, only 5ft and weigh 206-207. I am just tired of constantly losing 30-50lbs and then gaining it back. I have spent the last 6 years yo yo ing and am finally ready to have a more permanent resolution to my weight issues. Reading all of your posts and seeing your weight loss is very inspirational to me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
