Do you tell a new partner about loose skin?

Recommended Posts

I am 15 months post op but had lost a lot of weight before my surgery. Since I am doing mostly mostly online dating I tell them before we meet. I also tell them about my physical limitations because of the 4 bulging discs and that I am 60 years old. If they can't deal with these issues I'd rather know before we meet. I too am interested in knowing what others have to say about this topic.

Great way to be upfront about it! At least you know you won't be wasting your time.

I can't get a date, but if I could, I intended to tell them I lost a lot of weight. Perhaps they will or will not know about loose skin. When the time comes to reveal it, I guess I will find out then if it will be a problem. I figure if they get to know me first, it may not be a deal breaker later.

Men never admit they have small penises up front or say anything about their shortcomings when naked. Why should I handicap myself when men don't.

I've never had a man be like oh girl let me warn you, I don't have a 6 pack!

I don't disclose anything about loose skin and no one has ever commented on it once. I don't hide the fact I have lost weight, but men I date don't even ask me about it or care. They know I'm active.

I've lost a lot of weight. Even though I look good in clothes, you can look at me and tell I used to be fat. The arms are a dead give away. They already know what they are getting into before I take my clothes off.

Ok, funny story. So my first boyfriend did just this. I had just met him, and we weren't going out, but somehow the fact that he had a "vienna sausage" came up in conversation. I was a virgin, so that was an appealing characteristic! Lol!

Well I have friends that didn't have a problem with it. It's a hit and miss depending on the person. I met someone recently but really haven't heard back from him. Oh well.

I have mentioned weight loss surgery to guys because it's hard to explain how little I eat sometimes. I've had a positive response about it and some curiosity which doesn't bother me at all. I haven't disclosed anything about loose skin or even mentioned it after they've seen it to be honest. The guy I've hooked up with hasn't mentioned it at all so either he hasn't noticed or doesn't care. I have a very minimal amount of extra skin but it is noticeable, at least to me. I thought I would be way too self conscious about it and want to hide my body but I'm proud of where I am and I feel good. It's not perfect and I don't think it ever will be so all I can do is live my life in the body I have. Besides, it's a lot more fun when you can let go of those hang ups.

Hi,

You need to be comfortable with you. You can easily find out if the guy or girl is ok with it or not through conversation. If they have an issue with it then you dont want to deal with that anyway. My experience is different since I dated more while at lower weights. Its easier to interact with others when you're more confident. The other side of that is you can rock someones world and not be that confident. Date to find a great match and try your best not to overthink the extra skin. I know its easier said than done. I'm somewhat proud of mine because I frame it as a sign of all of the effort that has gone into getting to my goal as well as staying healthy.

Nah, don't tell them. It's on the same level as worrying if someone approves of your landscaping or a hidden tattoo or whatever. If they've been hugging you and didn't realize that there's probably some slack going on in there, then that's on them.

But honestly I think by the time all your loose skin is on show, whoever your partner is is into it enough that it's not really going to matter. And if it does? Ditch 'em. Life's too short to worry about someone eyeballing your bingo wings when they're supposed to be VERY FOCUSED on entirely different areas.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
