Pre Op Liquid Diet Starting Today

Recommended Posts

Uugghh...this is the day I was dreading. Two weeks of liquid prep. I am so hungry. I know this has importance to help with a successful surgery. This is going to be a tough mental challenge.

Any tips on how you made it through?

Keep yourself busy. When I wasn't at work I was scrubbing my house from top to bottom to keep my mind off food. The first few days are the worst but after that it gets much easier. You can do it! [emoji1303]

I agree keep yourself busy... the first 2-3 days are the hardest but once you get through those I felt better. I've been on it for a week and half and have struggled some but after changing the Protein Shakes I was originally using and finding a broth that works for me (the sodium was making me feel so sick) I am doing better. I also noticed when I am at work with nothing to really do I think I about food and hunger more than if I am busy.

At others said, first few days are the worst.

If you've had a ton of carbs/sugars before your diet, it's also very likely you will go through both psychological and physiological withdrawal. That's why when I started my liquid diet I warned my wife I could be very pissy for a while, and indeed I was.

I'm almost to the end, Sunday is my last day. In the beginning, I went to bed early. My diet is a little different but was still hard and tough mentally and physically in the beginning. You can do this. It just gets easier and easier.

Day #8 and as you all shared it has become easier. I'm even finding I have to remember to have a shake as I'm not getting those hunger pangs.

Well it is the night before surgery and I did it. This was a tough two weeks. Thank you for the support!

I start my 2 weeks of shakes on Sunday. My surgery is June 12th. I'm scared to death about the hunger pains.

LOL! I'm praying that I will survive this!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
